If you're after the default userR/password to log in to the admin-intaserface on the router it's usually ussername=root and password=admin

If it's the wep-key it's asking for there are software that can fetch this from your computer, but it's probably just as quick and easy to change the wep-key in the router and set up your writeless computers with that key.

Maybe it's asking you for the WEP key ? In that case, look in the router settings under the wireless security section on the router's web interface (usually 192.168.1.1)

We moved our desktop computers, 2 of them. one is hooked to cable and the other one we use the wireless router for. I tried to get it to work but I had forgotten the password, so I went in and followed the instructions to reset it. I came back to this computer where the linsky is hooked up to. The other computer which is only 1 room away has G link and was working fine until I moved them, now I can't get this computer (router) to find that one, it keeps saying that It find another next work. Hope you can help me with this.
Thank you I have a Linsky model wrt54g

I want to connect a Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR 2000 series Cable Modem to a Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G wireless router but the linksys doesnt detect the modem and the computer wont let the setup program for...

Most Cable Internet Service Providers (ISPs) use Media Access Control (MAC) Address authentication to establish Internet connection for end-users. MAC address is a unique identifier assigned to the network adapter/s of the computer.
To set up your Linksys router to work with a Cable ISP, you have to enable the MAC Clone feature of the router. MAC Cloning is a procedure which enables a router to copy the MAC address of the computer that's registered with the ISP.
To setup a Linksys router with Cable connection you need to perform four steps using the computer that's been registered with the ISP:
i. Verifying Internet Connection
ii. Connecting Devices Together
iii. Checking the Router's LEDs
iv. Configuring a Linksys Router for a Cable Internet Connection

My Linksys router went off, and when I tried to reset it, it reverted to the general linksys name on the wireless networks but I still can*t connect to the internet wirelessly, only if I use a direct cable...

If you have power and you can connect via Ethernet cord no the router is ok.
You will need to set the wireless settings correctly in the router setup page.

instruction set here:
1.Log into router. Using either 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 in a browser window that is ( internet Explorer or Firefox)
2. Verify wireless router name( on the computer) >>> ( on/off) ( router status window)
3.Note router name you are connecting to.
4.. Check the laptop do ipconfig /all to see current IP addresses.
5. Set the laptop up in the router by WEP KEY or MAC address. This set up in the "security tab" in the router. using 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 to access through a browser.
6.Note router name you are connecting to.
7. Move the laptop about 20ft away and try to log on to the internet.
This is for all routers to set up wirelessly.
8. check for firmware update at the manufacturers site for your model router

Laptops stopped connecting wireless

how about to reset your router and setup it the proper address by your internet provider..
laptops only connect to the router automatically if you enable it reconnect and detect its network without manually connect internet, this procedure can see in your wireless properties by enabling it.
And also ask your internet provider if theres a problem also with their internet connection.
Good luck!

Router not seeing internet connection

If you are on cable internet, you need to perform MAC Address Cloning. Access the router's setup page using your main PC, under SETUP tab, there's a sub-tab called MAC Address Clone. Enable that and click on "Clone My PC's MAC" then click on Save Settings. Power cycle the router and the modem. You should be online after that.

Laptop says excellent connection - not able to access internet

connect laptop to router using lan cable.
check internet connection. Should be ok.
Only then enable wireless using same WLAN protocol you use on Router: WEP or WPA with same encryption key TKIP or AES.
Be sure no access list enabled on Router or add Laptop MAC address to access list.

Wireless internet/mac/pc boot

If you cannot find any wireless driver on your Win XP then you do not have a wireless connection on this computer...Most commond problem if you have a built-in wireless adapter, the wireless switch is turn off, you can turn it on by switch the on-off panel on the side of the laptop or for some you need to press a key combination. (i.e. Fn+F2)

Setting up connection at a different location

best way to do this is with Airport station. I'm unsure that your Mac will 'see' that linksys unit, without a shift in the PnP used on mac side, and DHCP on PC side. Of course, maybe someone's figured it out, but I'd be the 2nd most surprised person then.

got backup for those computers?
