Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console
I have a Slimline that will play most games but there are 1-2 that I have bought that it will not play.
These are authentic PS2 games.
When I close the lid with the game the console will start to click approx. once per second. The clicking seems to be the laser/system trying to initialise the disk before going any further.
What I find quite interesting is that one of the games that does not work, did for some time. Of the 15 games that I have 2 have this problem.
Just to mention, the 2 discs that will not play do not have a single scratch on them and look new. I have put a CD lenses cleaner in it a few times to make sure no debris had accumulated on the lenses.
Other that this the PS2 works fine, playing DVDs, and CD/+R's.
The only Idea I have is that your Laser lens may be melting. This would explain the eratic behavior you describe. I have found that in the progression of the meltdown, the Laser hates reading silver backed discs at first. Then it will progress to not reading DVD's at all. Then nothing.
You need to look at your lens up close with a Magnifying glass. To do this you must take the console apart. you will need a new laser if you find that melting of the lens and or its support frame are melted.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
