Hi, i have replaced a toner in the copier and it keeps telling me to add toner, like it hasnt recognised the new one. i have re tried several times and turned the machine on and off again, no luck. is it supposed to click in firmly ?

I take it that you removed the black cap on the toner bottle OK thats out of the way open the door remove the toner as you would to replace. Remove the toner bottle look inside the bell behind the green handle and check that you can see a claw type thing if you cannot remove obstruction. Refit the toner close door and wait until machine stops and see if toner light goes out. If not open door wait 15 seconds close door and machine will start loading toner again. You may have to do this 5-6 times if it doesn't work after this then likely thing is the toner motor faulty and will need replacing

i do not know what machine you wait to reset the fuser code and the service code it has S.C but to enter the servie mode you press (star-107-#) then mode enter then check where scrol you find where its says error reset
You have a very old machine...
Assuming that you are putting the right bottle... It could be several problems.
Faulty clutch.. faulty toner supply unit... faulty drum Unit...
The best advise i could give to you is to call a technician...
The first thing i can tell you is that is weird!!!!
Because if you change the developer that error should disappear. It could appear later but not in the moment because the developer already have toner and the TD sensor will read it. And that's the question: When you said "replace developer" you mean just the developer or the DEVELOPER UNIT??? Is your TD sensor working good????
This machine is made by Ricoh and the same as a model Aficio 220. Pretty old and not worth much. If it runs and makes nice copies then $300 to $400. If it does not work or makes poor copies then next to nothing. I specialize in buying/selling used refurbished copiers and am very familiar with this model.

Hi how you doing the main problem with changing the dev bias is that the gap between the drum charge and dev bias has been brought closer and so more toner is being put onto the drum for image density.. I take it you have cleaned the optics on the scanner mirrrors and that the laser **** glass has been cleaned as these effect the copy quality too.. if the dev hasnt been changed at the pm intervals it slowly looses its charge holding capabilities.. you should change at least at the 160k marks to keep quality good.. you could also adjust the laser power up so you have a stronger image formation..hope this helps..if you know the machine I would take the laser unit out too and take the cover off to see if there a dust coating in the image mirrors as this can cause faint copies over a long period.. Open the front door and close it and check if the display reads loading toner. Try this for 3 times.
If Add toner indicator is still there, check that you had removed the black cap of the toner, before you replaced the toner bottle.
Remove the bottle from the holder and check inside the neck of the holder if there is something blocking the toner supply. (sometimes the inner plastic cap of the previous toner is stucked in the neck).
Check and clean the toner bottle holder unit.
Another problem can be worn gears in the lower development unit and within the dev. bias roller.

the part numbers are different for each toner from ricoh, Lanier, Savin and Gestetner. From what I recall is the bottles are different, check the old bottle vs new. Also if the machine had run very low you may have to open and close the fron cover several times, this intiates a toner feed program.
When you put a new cartridge in I take it you have removed the black cap that sits on top of the toner bottle (if you haven't remove it) The machine as default allows a 15 second gap from when you open the door and put the cartridge in to when you close the door. If you are too fast at changing toner open the door wait 15-20 seconds then close the door . Machine will then show on the control panel that toner is loading. If this does not work repeat two more times if still does not work then the drum unit (Photo Conductor Unit) is not accepting toner you will have to replace it.
