I have tried holding down the start button but all this does is turn the printer on or off. I'm not sure which button to hold down to solve this error message problem.
Hi ...
This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.
Please vote if this helps ... Cheers :)
1 Turn on the Canon MX700 printer by pressing and holding down the "Power" button. Open the paper output tray by pulling up on the tray. An arm will unfold from inside the printer and hold the tray open.
2 Apply pressure on the ink cartridge tab and remove the ink cartridge. A flashing light on the outside of the ink tray will indicate what cartridge needs to be replaced.
3 Remove the film, orange tape and protective cap from the replacement cartridge. You can throw away any trash. Do not touch the metal contacts on the new cartridge; this may cause the cartridge not to work.
4 Insert the front end of the replacement cartridge into the ink holder. Make sure you are placing the correct color in the correct spot. There is a sticker on the outside of the holder indicating what color goes where.
5 Apply pressure on the cartridge where it says "Push" until the cartridge snaps into place. The once flashing light should turn a solid red indicating the cartridge was replaced correctly.
6 Close the paper output tray. The Canon MX700 will start cleaning the printer heads. You cannot print during this time. The entire process may take a minute or two.
