Restart your ASUS laptop and press the "F9" key while the computer is booting up. This will open the boot screen. Select "Recover Windows to Entire HD" and press "Enter."
Press "Y" three times when asked if you are sure that you want to restore. The laptop will restore the factory settings. The computer will then shut down and start up again.
Approve the license agreement, then select your "Language preference." Enter your name into the box and click "Next."
Enter your password twice on the next screen and select "Next." Enter the time zone and date information, then select "Next." Select "Finish" on the next screen and the computer will reboot.
It is possible you have a intermittent power on/off button that is not working properly, remove main battery to see if that will help, if not! unplug power supply from laptop and remove main battery, next press and hold power for 2 minutes to get rid of any residual voltage, now put everything back together and power up.
Try pressing control (ctrl) alt & delete keys on your keyboard when you get the screen that shows asus logo. Press all three keys at the same time. Do it two or three times fast in a row and tell me if it makes your computer turn off and restart again? You can answer my question by going to the problem you posted on fixya and click on the comment or reply link in blue.
if you can control the netbook by hitting those three keys then its possible to put the pc in safe mode with keyboard commands. If your using win xp - press and hold F8 or f2 right when you start up your computer. Sometimes you have to try this two or three times in a row to get it to respond on go into bios. On win xp - it takes three failed attempts in a row to automatically go to safe mode on a computer. if you pause inbetween start ups, it wont count them as together.
Some computers need the delete key pressed during start up to go into the bios system.
maybe I can help you label it if you send me a clear picture of the mainboard...laptops are not manufacturer-uniform in parts placements. hint: the one under the aluminum fins with blower is the CPU...if you want to know the chipset or the video controller chip... [email protected]
did you check the switch if can do a shutdown process after you press the power button for 2 or 3 seconds? If not there's a problem with the switch...but if it shutdowns ok then I suggest have the OS re-installed to isolate the problem. You can use a separate HDD to do a disk recovery install. At the same time you can make the original disk as your backup.
have you tryed to flex the laptop, grab eather corner and just gently flex it side to side, laptops generaly flex a little and the internals some times come apart, i had a simular problem and it helped to tighten the base screws a little.
may not fix the problem but is the easyest thing to test to check if it is the problem.
good luck.
Icannot install my driver/manual disc as it is a small disc and as the disc holder is upright it just falls out is there any other way to install tha technika bluetooth class2 USB device
Same problem here with my wife's Asus laptop. Called Asus and they said to unplug charger, remove the battery in the back, hold down the power button for 10 seconds. Then, replace battery, then charger, then press the power button and wait for startup. First time it got stuck at the windows loading bar screen for like 5 min. which is abnormal. Did a hard power down (press and hold power button til it shuts off) then restarted again. That time it worked and all is well so far. Could have been due to a static charge as she was on our couch with our dog backing up movies so charge might have entered through the CD/DVD drive opening. (?) Not sure, but if you are sitting on a static-prone couch with your laptop its probably best to sit on top of a bounce sheet.
