I don't really know if you can or not, but if you laptop is slow then try cleaning and removing programs adding ram ect... last thing i would do is take it apart your apt to have more problems after wards and the life of a laptop is not that great so i would do all i could with it then get a new one when the time calls.

With out knowing your motherboard it's a guess. However you can look at the link below. Then scroll to the bottom of the page. Your SL52R should be the 4th cpu from the bottom of the list. It doesn't look likely and it definitely runs hotter. http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/Intel/Pentium_III/RB80526PY700256.html

CPU Upgrade

You pulled the processor out of your laptop ... that was a brave move ... generally laptop boards are fully integrated so there is very few options on changing the processor ... also because of the extreme heating conditions the heat sink bonding is very critical ... make sure you replace this properly or you will have overheating issues in the future ...

Toshiba 4600 - replace P3 700mhz with P3 1ghz

No you can't pull out as the CPU is surface mounted soldered on the mainboard, only manufacturer or approved repairer can take it out and put the new CPU with only the correct voltage specs.

don't try yourself otherwise you will damage the entire laptop.
