Question about Sony CDX-GT300 CD Player

2 Answers

Memory loss I have recently installed a Sony CDX-GT300 to my Peugeot 206. It works fine, however, every time I turn off the engine all the preset memory radio stations are lost. The CD that is in also goes back to the start of the disc. What's the problem? Thanks.

You need to remove the radio and swap the red wire for the yellow wire and vice versa, they have bullet connectors to allow you to do this, basically the permanent live and the ignition live are the wrong way round.

If you are not getting a switched live at the back of the radio and the vehicle is newer than 2002 you may find that it is a can bus system so you need to find another switched live usually from the cigarette lighter supply and run a wire to the red lead on the radio

Sony CDX-GT300 just cut out

By any chance, have you checked the main connector on the rear of the unit? I was having problems with the unit in my Harley cutting out and the front panel going dark and found that while the connector was still attached, the weight of the wire harness was tweaking it just enough to disconnect power. Try pulling, then reattaching the connector and if that fixes it, use zip-ties to take all of the weight off of the connector. Hope this helps.

Memory loss since changing fuse!!!

The unit will have 2 fuses, or at least a second power supply that is generally connected to continuous power, best bet is straight from the +ve batt terminal. If this power supply has been disconnected or has a blown fuse, then you will also loose memory functions from you radio.
  1. Check first under the bonnet for a memory backup fuse holder that has generally less than 1 amp fuse,
  2. no luck, then about the rear of your fuse box for a fuse holder,
  3. or worst, behind the unit up under the dash. The wire from the back of the stereo on Sonys is generally the RED one for memory backup
restoring this power supply to your stereo will then allow for all your presets to be retained in memory

Good luck, happy to talk to you more about the problem, a "FixYa" rating will help my profile

regards
Graeme
