Hello,
It sounds like you have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors
will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called
capacitors overheating in the confined space of the monitor. If you are
good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix the problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictures and your monitor should work
fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and -
connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the
same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping.
I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

Can you send me a picture of your power supply board and what brand capacitors are installed. Your problem is either power inverter or backlight tubes. Some brands of capacitors die with no visible external damage. We can cross reference the power supply board with other models and get back to you.

all the caps are fine, none have swollen or leaked. also when the screen does come on it displays perfectly fine and bright but just for that 1/2 sec, then it goes black.

Its fixed now. The top CCFL bulb was dead. I talked with a guy who is trying to find me a dac19m005 board, he said there's a circuit that watches the backlight voltage. fix wasn't perfect newer ccfl's are a little short, but it got it working. now if i can just get the menus to work, i think that they're locked.
thanks for all you help!
