I had a similar problem with non genuine ink cartridges i have now put genuine hp cartridges in and it works again. Apparently hp do something to the printer to mess it up if non genuine / refilled cartridges are used.

I put in new cartridges and it keeps blinking "remove and check catridges". I turned it off and on to initialize and the same problem persists. These are HP cartridges too.

    Any ideas??

My printer was working fine after putting in 2 new cartridges from ASDA now I get the following message..The following error message now appears on the color graphics display: Remove and Check Print Cartridges . The printer will not print. The message does not specify which cartridge has caused the error, and all the lights flash.

I removed and cleaned the contacts but still get the "remove and check print cartridges"error. I just replaced with cartridges with refilled ones from Staples. They are HP cartridges though.

screen keeps saying remove and check print cartridges.  New color and just refilled black cartridges.  have removed and checked cartridges several times, but still repeats message r &c print cartridges.  What to do???

Just had this same problem too. Got a new cartridge and that didn't solve the problem. Then, noticed that the spring in the cartridge well had punctured the printer circuit board on the printer, not the cartridge.

I find this problem frustrating and it has occurred from time to time . Resolved once by sending the printer back to hp. New machine still does it --I think the ink connectors are finicky. Bad design also because if the cartridge is the other non-printing related function s (faxing/scanning ) don't work too.

SOURCE: Brother HL-4040CN won't read or show new refilled cartridge in the LCD

Q: Brother printer toner refill.?

A: yes and no. it is easy to fill the toner but if it is the original toner which came with the printer, they deliberately leave out a $4 starter gear which is needed to regulate the amount of charge going to the drum. Without this gear, the copies will come out too light and be nearly useless. I threw out two of these printers until I came across Northbay Toner who explained this to me and provided what I needed. I now have two Brother lasers working well on $5 refills. For more info, see

SOURCE: color cartridge wont print

The color cartridge is defective. Sometimes, when the printer detects a refilled cartridge, it "marks" the cartridge as defective hence the refilled cartridge will not work on any printer.

SOURCE: Reset ink level on CANON MP 140 PIXMA PRINTER

How to reset the Canon MP150 after a refill (Step 10 concerns refill; instructions below the steps):
Method1 (Safe Factory Method):
1) Disconnect the printer’s power outlet
2) Press and hold the power button while connecting the power outlet back.
3) While still holding down the power button, press the reset button twice.(red circle with a triangle)
4) Release the power button
The printer takes about 10 seconds to show the number 0.
5) Press + to change the value from 0 to 1.
6) When this value is 1, press colour button; this will light up two leds.
One is for plain paper and the other for photo paper. At this point is feed the printer with paper.
7) Press the power button twice and the printer will print a some stuff (if it doesn't print by itself, then press the "color" button once and the test sheet will print). Don’t worry much about the printed material. I got some stripped lines and some numbers. I believe that my colour cartridge is clogged which is why I got the green strips.
When you print this sheet the value in the display returns to zero.
8 ) Open the printer cover cover (not the scanner cover) and remove the cartridges. With the printer still open, disconnect the power outlet.
9) Close the lid and turn on the printer.
10) Refill cartridges and place them back in their nice little abode in the printer.

Frequently use of same refill cartridge some time becomes dead or print is not able to recognize you can try with installing new one. Just follow these steps if it works but I advised you to change the faulty cartridge

Check to see if the installed cartridge is the correct one for the printer. If the cartridge is the proper part number, remove the ink cartridge and make sure all the packaging tape has been removed from the copper circuitry strip on the backside of the cartridge. Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again.

If the error continues, remove the cartridge again and clean the copper circuitry strip on the backside of the cartridge, and the contacts inside the printer, by following the instructions below:

1. Use a clean, dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Locate the copper-colored circuitry strip on the back of the cartridge.

2. Wipe the copper-colored strip with the dry cloth. Use an upward motion, from the nozzle end to the top of the cartridge. Do not wipe the nozzle end of the cartridge or touch the nozzle plate. Wipe the contacts only once.

3. To clean the printer contacts, carefully look for fibers or contamination on the electrical contacts inside the carriage assembly, but do not wipe the printer contacts with any object. The contacts in the printer can be damaged if too much pressure is applied during a wiping process. Try to remove any visible attached debris within the carriage assembly by gently pulling the debris off with your fingers. If the carriage contacts show noticeable damage, contact the Customer Care Center listed in the printer's User's Guide.

Reinsert the cartridge and try printing again. If the error continues, the cartridge may need to be replaced.

Hello, after refilling ink cartridges HP21 and HP22,I instaled them to my HP Deskjet F4180 printer. When there is only HP22-color cartridge in printer, everything works. But after installing HP 21-black...

Most times during a refill if you leave the cartridge out for any length of time the ink dries on the printhead or nozzels and wont allow the cartridge to print.
You can clean it manually with rubbing alcohol or try to use the printhead/cleaning feature built into the maintenance software installed on your computer.
Most times you will have to replace the ink cartridge.

How do i install new ink cartridges in my mp190

Installing a new cartridge in your computer printer is quite easy. First of all it is recommended that you buy new cartridges every time you run out of ink instead of refilling it. Refilling cartridges will have negative impact not just on the paper but on the printer too. It has been reported that refilled cartridges have ruined many printers. After you buy the new cartridges, remove the old ones carefully.

Remember the printer should be turned off before going any further. Install the new ones in the empty slot and turn on the printer. Remove a test page from the printer and check whether the new inks work or not. The first one or two times the ink might be a little smudge but that's all right. It will become normal again after one or two print outs. If the problem persists, exchange the inks with your retailer.

Hp 8500 refuses to print

It is a problem using refilled toner cartridges, especially in colour machines. Mono (Black) printers are usually ok to use a good quality refilled cartridge, but colour machines generally do not like them.

Have you tried to print a Configuration page from the control panel <Information> menu?

search for the specific cartridge you have and keywords such as "refill, reset expiration, contacts" for instructions on how to fool the printer into thinking the cartridge isnt expired yet. This works for most HPs:

My printer screen says there is a cartridge error.

The contact between the ink cartridge and the printer must be clean for proper functioning. If any dirt, ink or paper dust is on the contacts, the printer may indicate that the ink cartridge is bad. To ensure a clean contact, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Remove and re-install the cartridge
  1. Turn the printer on; open the printer to access the print cartridges.
  2. Remove the suspect cartridge(s) from the station.
  3. Re-install the cartridges in their stations.
  4. Close the printer.
  5. Turn off the printer for a few seconds and then turn it back on.
  6. Print a test page following your printer’s instructions.
  7. If this does not work, please proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Clean the contacts on the printer and the ink cartridge
  1. Turn on the printer; open the printer to access the print cartridges.
  2. Remove the suspect cartridge(s) from the station.
  3. Using a clean, dry lint-free cloth wipe the contacts on the print cartridge from top to bottom. The contacts inside the printer may also need to be cleaned. Please refer to your printer’s manual or the manufacturers’ website on how to clean the contacts.
  4. After cleaning the print cartridge and printer contacts, re-install the print cartridges and close the printer.
  5. Print a test pattern to determine if the problem has been fixed; if not proceed to step 3.
3.Reset the printer
  1. If the problem has not been fixed it may be useful to perform a "hard reset". This can correct an electronic flag setting inside the printer telling it that the print cartridge is problematic. Please refer to your printer’s user manual or the manufacturer’s website for the correct "hard reset" procedure for your printer. Often times it simply involves turning off your printer and unplugging it for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Print a test page to determine if the problem has been resolved.
  3. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase a new print cartridge.
All cartridges being repeatedly refilled eventually do fail. Some cartridges/printers may encounter an unavoidable mechanical or electrical failure which is unrelated to refilling. Check for physical damage on the cartridge. Look at the print cartridge and see if there are any cracks, tears or missing elements. Any one of these can cause a failure. In these cases, you will need to purchase a new cartridge and start the refill process again after it has run out.
If these solutions do not work, we recommend that you visit your printer manufacturer's website or talk with their technical support organization. If you think the refilled cartridge might be bad, take it back to your refiller and have them re-check the cartridge.

Hi Anish, Have u checked the printer cartridges installed properly(i.e., Color in color door and black in black door). and also check the cabling between the system and your printer. and put the papers properly. if the problem again persists uninstall the printer driver and install the latest drives which can be downloaded from the net.
