Usually a capacitor going bad will cause something of that sort but if the compressor has age it may require a super boost capacitor to help it start. Both of these items have to be purchased from a distributor. I have access to the parts if you want to try that other than that I hope the info helps.
It could be one of four things, a bad run capacitor, start capacitor, start relay or the
compressor is locked up.
I would think it's either the run capacitor. A lot of times you can look at it and if it's bulging even slightly then it's bad, if not it's probably the start capacitor and relay I add the relay in because when you change one you should change the other also..

Danby Dehumidifier Model # DDR586R Serial # 6763858666 (only 28 months old) - Does not collect water or starts the compressor (was fine just a week ago). Fan runs fine, display is fine, air filter is clean. Is there some switch/relay that control the compressor that may be bad? Can the compressor control be by-passed (or manually closed) to verify the compressor working condition? Thanks.
