Hpofficejet j4500 upon setting up my new printer I follow all the steps and when I was told by way of directions to install the disk the information needed didn't show up on my screen what do I do next

Please follow the following steps.

1) Turn off the printer.

2) Shutdown the PC to which the printer is connected.

3) Remove the USB/Serial cable through which the printer is connected to the PC and reconnect it back.

4) Now switch ON the PC(only PC and not the printer)

5) Let the PC boot up and login to windows.

6) Now switch on the printer, PC should detect the printer automatically now.

Now you will be able to print.If not then follow the following steps.

Please be informed that any Printer Driver software depends upon the hardware make and Operating System. You need to know all these information's to do get going.

Please find the Driver software's of your printer inside the installation disk provided with the Printer at the time of purchase. As you have not mentioned your Printer make I am unable to give you the direct download link. However you can download the same by visiting the website of the company that manufactured the Printer.

Even here you need to be careful to download the correct software for your PC. You need to be exact with the Printer Model number and the OS that you are using.

To install just Double clock on the driver setup.exe file and go on clicking 'Next' until you get the 'Finish' option and restart the PC.

YOU NEED TO INSTALL YOUR SOFTWARE FIRST...SO INSERT YOUR DISK...PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR PRINTER IS NOT HOOKED UP TO YOUR COMPUTER YET...CLICK ON START...GO TO CONTROL PANEL...GO TO INSTALL NEW SOFTWARE.

(NOTE) SOFTWARE HAS TO BE INSTALLED BEFORE HARDWARE

AFTER SOFTWARE IS INSTALLED...YOU WILL WANT TO DO A RESTART...UPON RESTART...HOOK YOUR PRINTER UP TO ANY USB PORT...AGAIN... GO TO ...START...CONTROL PANEL...TYPE IN PRINTERS...GO TO INSTALL NEW PRINTER.

YOU'LL NEED TO DO ANOTHER RESTART...SO TOO MAKE SURE YOUR COMPUTER DETECTS THE NEW SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE. YOU CAN ALSO GO TO...PRINTERS...(FROM YOUR START...TYPE IN PRINTERS...SEE IF THIS PRINTER IS THERE? IF THERE, CLICK ON IT...GO TO PROPERTIES...DO A TEST PRINT!

You can download a driver from the manufacturers website which is located at www.hp.com. Click on support and then download drivers/software. Enter the model number of your printer and follow the prompts to download and install the drivers. Do not connect your printer to your pc until the drivers and/or software is installed.

It is possible to perform the Windows install yourself, however you would need access to your orginal windows disk and licence key. All you do is boot the laptop with your disk interted into the DVD drive. It will then tell you to press any key to install windows.Do a full format of NTFS and when asked to create a primary boot partition set this to the maximum size allowed. This will ensure that you use your whole disk. Therefore have a single C: drive and your information contained within. Just follow the steps and do not press any key when prompted to do so after the format of the hard drive as this will start you right back at the begining again.

For that you need to install windows 7 drivers in your computer.
Drivers are same for j4500 series so you can install driver of j4540 because driver are same for j4500 series.

Click on above link and select any mdel and then select os then download driver also there is some updates download updates too then install.
Then it will work .

You may need to uninstall and reinstall the software as per below procedure.

UNINSTALL THE SOFTWARE:

• Unplug the USB cable. {caution - Do not reconnect the cable untill the onscreen prompt to connect while reinstalling}
• Click Start > Control Panel and double click "Add or Remove programs".
  
• In the list of installed programs, Click HP products and click "Remove".
• Follow the onscreen instructions to remove the software.
• After its done, restart the computer.

REINSTALL THE SOFTWARE:

• After restart, insert the Software CD and follow the instruction to install.
• At, one particular step you will be prompted to connect the USB Cable; turn the printer ON and then connect it.
• Allow the installation to continue and then restart the computer and try scanning.

You should have an installtion disk supplied by Lexmark if not go onto the Lexmark website and download it www.lexmark.com/support

Put the disk in first and follow the instructions

Once it is loaded install the printer

That way Microsofts own installer does not get a chance to screw up the settings
