Check to make sure the cable is connected securely to both the computer and monitor. From the front of the monitor, use the buttons to reset to the factory defaults.
Make sure your video card is firmly in place (if you have added a video card). Also, update your video drivers.
Hope this helps.

Computor keeps trying to restart, monitor only shows vertical lines, first black and white then colored lines,

Probably the problem is not with the monitor. Your computer is defective and probably the lines appear because your VGA is defective.
To make sure your monitor is OK, you can connect it to another computer.
First check replacing the RAMs and then VGA.

My computor is HP pavillion a1640n and it does show some message in white after it starts opening up the in flash of a second it disapears and the screen comes on what can i do not to see this message...

It sounds like you're describing the BIOS screen. This is an image that appears whenever the computer first starts up, and only lasts for a second or two, after which Windows begins to start up. Unfortunately, it's not possible to stop the screen from displaying; it's an important part of the boot process and allows technicians to enter diagnostic screens if necessary.

cause possible: memory bad or loose, bad video card, bad mb. try removing memory and re-installing it (unplugged of course) keeping one hand on case to prevent static.
