SOURCE: Changing the drum rollers on a Maytag MDE4000AYW Neptune Dryer..
The instructions above are perfect for most Maytag Dryers, but the Neptune MDE4000AYW is built differently from most. To open it, undo the two screws that run through the door hinges, and remove the door, then undo the two other screws that are on the opposite side of the doorway. With these four screws out, you can lift the front panel UP and out. Make sure you unplug the dryer first :-)

did you check to see if the belt was not broke? if not possibly the motor went out.hope this helps
SOURCE: Dryer not heating
remove front panel and inspect ignitor if has small white burn mark then replace burnt out
SOURCE: CRACK IN DRUM
unless this is less than a year old your dont have much chance of a free repair. drums dont normally crack but it can happen around a seam. did it make alot of noise and you let it go too long until now the drum is worn out and thats where the crack is at?
if you do have a newer unit then i would call maytag and let them know you have a failed drum. they might give you an authorization for part replacement, but probably not labor from an authorized servicer.
the labor might cost about 100-120 bucks, but that is still cheaper then the price of a new drum, maybe 150-175 bucks.
SOURCE: dryer takes too long to dry
You have an airflow restriction and it's most likely in the vent inside the wall leading outside. I know this because the dryer is trying to do its' job (and that the default "fail" mode on the t'stats is "open". That is to say... if a t'stat fails, the dryer won't heat).
The only other thing that causes an overheat condition is a failed blower assy. When these fail, though, the dryer makes an awful racket. And since you didn't mention an awful racket, I go with clogged vent pipes in the walls.
When my customers call who have the same symptoms as you, I don't even bother running the service call (costs me money, but I'm an honest guy). I recommend they call a dryer vent service or a chimney sweep service.
Hope this helped!

P.S. The way to test my diagnosis is simple. Disconnect the dryer vent from the wall and start the dryer. That's it! You'll see the dryer will function normally.
