Authorized sony repair center told me the problem was the Q Box. Ever heard of this? Part runs about 300 bucks. TV is out of warrenty as it is 2 years old. Do you think it is worth it to fight sony and get them to replace the part or just fix the TV?

Part Number is A1167541A, service rep called it a Q Box in the diag, however the web says its the b block assmy.

read this if you think it's the same problem

you will need a new one of these sony optical block 1-788-303-21 kdf-e50a10. when it over heats the picture will go strange also just sometimes there is a build up of dust blocking the light in the chamber in the optical block you may be able to clean this out but any scratches you make on the glass will be seen when the tv is on. also there is a lot of resting to do when you put back you have to re-aline the output to the screen size using the adjuster.

I own a Sony KDF E50A10 3LCD TV that has developed a purpleish defect in the lower, center portion of the screen. Do you have any ideas on how to fix this?

It is an Optical Block Problem, Sony has settled several Class Action Lawsuits covering many models from 2002-2010. Start with this Link, it will provide you a very good starting point. Hope this helps

How do I find out which lamp is blown? My screen has a lot of yellow throughout it. It is a Sony KDF-E50A10.

It is dlp tv that has one lamp as back light source. Yellowish tint is problem of Optical Block Unit (commonly known as light engine) that will be replaced to fix it.
Local tech will help you in optical block unit replacement because it is purely job of qualified tech.
Thanks.

I have a blue line in the top left corner of my kdf-e50a10

The Optical Block needs to be replaced. I would call Sony and see if it qualifies for a recall repair. If so, Sony will pick up the cost of install.

Hello! I have a problem with my kdf-e50a10 sony wega. When i watch TV i see a yellowish vertical line right in the middle of my tv is like 10 inches wide, all the way from the top to the bottom of the...

This is caused by a failure of the optical block of your TV. The only way to fix the issue is to replace the whole optical block which is very expensive ($1000+) and time consuming (need to take whole TV apart to replace the part).

The optical block in your model had inherent issues and there is currently a class action lawsuit pending against Sony for this issue. Up to date information reguarding the lawsuit can be found here: http://www.sonya20tvclassaction.com/main/home.sfx

You may want to have the optical block checked out. Usually when you see spots or blotches of color it's due to a malfunction of the Opt. Block assembly.
