Question about HP Pavilion 763n PC Desktop

1 Answer

Power supply I have a 763n Pavilion. The power supply failed. It was taken off by a technician. I have bought a new one and would like to install it by myself. For that, I need to know what to plug where. Do you have a sketch of this wiring? Thanks in advance.Pierre

Re: Power supply

HI Pierre,

I am going to have to go draw something up real quick for you.
In words, The main big connector goes to the only connector on the motherboard that it will fit in.
The smaller connectors rectangular connectors plug into the Hard Drive and another in the CD/DVD drive. Als you may have another connector for a Disc drive.
All the Connectors are specifically shaped not to fit where they do not belong.

My computer will power on but there are no lights on the keyboard nothing on the monitor and no beeps or noises. What's going on?

* the power-supply is not supplying all the voltages that it should;
* the motherboard has failed;
* the CPU on the motherboard has failed.

Try a different power-supply, or take the computer to a qualified technician for thorough trouble-shooting.

Can the HP Pavilion 763n PC Desktop use a wireless router?

Your computer has a "built-in" 10/100BT network connection integrated on the motherboard but to go wireless you'll have to add either a PCI (internal) or USB (external) wireless network adapter to transmit/receive the signal from your wireless router. Think "walkie-talkie" here with the wireless router installed AFTER the modem (phone line outlet needed) located in a central area of your home and transmitting/receiving to the individual wireless network adapters that must be separately installed in each computer.

Computer will not run in safe mode (not in any mode). We had a power outage last week and ever since then the computer will not reboot or run. I get it cut on and a black screen appears saying that windows...

The power failure has made the operating system (windows)to crash . if you can do some installation on your pc yourself, you can repair the operating system or better still reinstall a new operating system.

Old Hp Pavilion 763n PC, cleaned it out thoroughly, replaced power supply, redid heat sink with silver paste, and added RAM. It worked fine, little slow, but working for about three days and now nothing....

Here is a listing. From what I read, it seems to me the problem is in the CPU and that it is overheating. This can be caused by a multitude of issues but first ensure the CPU fan is running. Second, if you applied too much siver heat sink, this can cause overheating as well. Make sure you only have a thin layer between the CPU and the heatsink. Hope this helps.

Hp Pavilion 763n won't startup light on fan on cpu not running

The most common issue is a portion of the power supply has gone bad (power supplies provide +5, +12, -5, and -12 vdc). Otherwise, the motherboard may need replacing. Try finding a spare power supply from a friend and hook it up to see if everything runs fine before purchasing one (about $40-50). If the power supply doesn't fix it, it could be the CPU (although I believe the CPU fan would still run) or any portion of the motherboard.

Hp pavilion 513n tries to start up then turns off

This is a case where something that is getting switched on during start-up is causing the power supply to fail... probably due to a short. How ever I believe the short is in the power supply

This is an older HP model ( I have a 530N) with teh same problem. I bought a new power supply and installed it.
