To use the universal remote by peel, do i have to have a tv/ cwble provider?

I would just like to add that I have a Sony BDP-S500 player and a Sony TV.

The Sony TV's remote was preprogrammed to control the Bluray player, which i discovered by accident, so I didn't have to mess with universal remote control codes or anything.

I need the codes for a ge universal remote model RC 24918-D for a sony bluray model BDP-S280
This link will take you to a page to determine the version of the remote you have (version decal located in battery compartment). Jasco is a GE product.

Lost remote for DVD
It may or may not work. There's no way to program it unless it's a universal remote, and even then you'd need to find the codes. I'd put some batteries in and hit power... if it works it works. Universal remotes aren't expensive though. Pick one up if the old Sony won't work.

Well...I went to the Jwin website and this is what they have posted as far as using a universal remote:
