Hello Tom, you would have to measure if the engine gets power, also control the key that drives the engine when it starts
Check if you can move the motor shaft with your hand, to confirm that it is not locked
Good luck with the checks

Hola Tom, tendrias que medir si le llega alimentacion al motor, tambien controlar la llave que acciona al motor cuando arranca
Fijate si puedes mover el eje del motor con la mano, para corroborar que no esta trabado
Suerte con los chequeos
Saludos Franco Dosil

The mechanics in your arm postion is throwing the switch. A mechanical postion switch has sliped out of postion, a arm from the toner arm post has moved to an encorrect postion, or if your turntable has a multi-album play abilty your 'next to play record' post postion sensor switch is out of postion. Last or first is your belt could fool ya. Your belt may have a weak spot on it in turn no friction underload.

If the belt is stuck, it will be hard to take off without damaging the belt. Send it back.

SOURCE: Turntable does not turn

Try this - GENTLY move the phono arm to the RIGHT until you hear a click Tof course, do this after you turn on the power via the volume dial and set the other dial to"phono"). Doing this turns on the turntable when you haven't used it in awhile. This worked for us, hope it works for you.

If it doesn't work, you can check the belt by removing the tiny clip at the center post and gently lift the turntable platform/tray to peek at the motor and belt underneath. The pulley is on the right at the 2 o'clock position, the belt should be in contact with it.

First see if you can manually turn the shaft by hand. If it freely turns then it will be a power issue. If it doesn't the motor might have seized up. Some oil should correct it.
If it's a power issue you should look around for bent or broken switches.
If the motor to the deck operates under 12 volts. You can connect a 9 volt battery to it. If that doesn't turn it the motor is faulty.

Turntable does not rotate, help!!

Put your ear to the turntable platter in the on mode. If you can hear a motor spinning sound and no rotation you have a slipped or broken belt.
Remove the rubber matt from top of the turntable platter and now while slowly rotating the platter look through cut out in the metal, at one point you will see a motor spindle and a belt. Feel the tension of the belt , it should be wrapped tight round the pulley. bobhifi_13.jpg

CR74-S ..THE CD PLAYER HAS NEVER WORKED..IT WILL NOT PLAY..IT LOADS THE CD AND THEN QUITS SPINNING

Unfortunately it is the laser pickup that is the problem, if it has not worked from day one it was flawed from manufacture, and if you happen to have warranty left I suggest you use it now, simply because to replace the assembly would not be cost effective.

If this is a belt driven turntable, then you have to replace the belt, as this units gets old the belts loosen up as well.

The turntable won't spin

Your turntable belt is off. Remove the c-clip holding the platter to the center spindle. Remove the platter and turn it bottom side up, place the rubber belt around the platter and fix it to the little post sticking up on the outer-edge surface. The little post holds the belt to the platter while you turn the platter over and put it on so that the post points right over the motor pulley. Turn the platter by hand either clockwise or counter-CW and the belt will pop off of the post and land on the motor pulley. One drop of oil on the center spindle for lube and fasten the e-clip back on. Of course, the tone arm might not be actuating the power switch, you can address that with the platter off as well. Good Luck.
