Av cable displays no video but only sound

2 days ago i was listening to my music then i turned off my ps3. The next day i started my ps3 and heard the start up and the controller moves to the diffrent icons and i can still play my music just fine but i cannot view the display! I have my ps3 and it is a first gen but as i start a game/movie/music i cannot view this. The sound works just fine but no picture why is this??? I have tried reseting the video output/tried 3 diffrent cables.....av/s-video/commponet cables....all with sound but no picture! Using the same port on my tv i have success with my ps2 using the same ps3 cables with sound and picture. So anybody have a solution or am i just another voice that is not heard?

Sounds like you blew the A/V and HDMI connector on the back of your ps3. If it still has it's warranty I would send it back because this problem sounds serious.

Turns on PS3 you can hear the loading music at start up but there is no video being displayed, tried replacing av cable with a new one same thing happens with new cables, my guess is its the console its...
follow these simple steps to solve your PS3 problem :
Step 1. Turn the PS3 off into standby (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep as soon as you press it and then about 5 seconds later it will beep again. Let go of the power button when you hear this second beep.
Step 3. Wait for your PS3 to start.
This solution basically resets the video output back to standard definition.

Intermittent Sounds Problem on PS3
If you have verified the AV cable is not the issue, it's likely the AV port on the PS3 is the culprit.
Try your cable on another PS3 to be sure. Then try your PS3 and cable on another TV.
If it still misbehaving, send it back to Sony for repair.

No picture or sound
Your display needs to be reset, Turn the ps3 off. Then turn the ps3 back on but continue to press the power button until you hear the beeps then it should work fine :)

it might work if you turn on your game, then take out your hdmi cable for a few seconds, then put it back in.

Playstation 3 console not displaying on tv screen
Make sure all the video cable connections are plugged firmly into the back of the PS3
The sound you are hearing indicates that you are on the right track. To get the video to work you will need to select the correct channel on your TV set. Connect the video cables (yellow) to the video INPUT of the AV port of your TV and then change to the AV channel on your TV set to view the picture.

if you have a SD TV. ( standard display, not HD ) but chose the HD display option on system settings you wont see picture but hear sound. and same goes if you've chosen SD display but own a HD TV. so try to reset your system somehow or take it in for inspection.
