Question about Zenith 12vDC 800mA 20W AC Adaptor A41208 (1500850) Power Supply
I have a fish tank with built in light and filter. I have lost the power adapter. The cord says in need a 1.5A 12V a/c power supply. Could i use a 12V a/c 1A supply? will that work?
First, ensure it really is supplying a/c and not d/c current. if it is d/c ensure polarity (+ and -) is a match. then try it without the filter first. if the light seems bright enough, turn it off then turn on filter...if it seems to be running ok, then try both on for about 5 minutes. now feel if adapter is getting too warm...it should be only warm to touch. now try both on for about 30 minutes. now feel if adapter is getting too warm...it should be only slightly warmer than before. many manufacturers purposely over-rate the current draw to "be on the safe side" usually by 150 to 200% over so that your light/filter really only needs 1 amp.
