I have an RC 4 qt. electric ice cream freezer. The can has rust on the bottom and I would like to know how I can remove the rust so I can use the freezer. Any suggestions?
If you use Comet or Ajax on a sponge and scrub hard, most or all of the rust should come off. If there is any rust left behind after scrubbing for 30 seconds, it will probably not interfere with the quality of the ice cream. To prevent further rust, dry the container and apply a little food grade mineral oil available at CVS.
Spray the inside and outside of the can with PAM. An ingredient in PAM is soybean lecthin which adheres to the can better than the canola oil or as suggested mineral oil. PAM can be washed away and it is edible.
I have a complete unit with like-new can I would be willing to sell!
