SOURCE: I have two Sony KV-27FS120, they have the same

Check very carefully for cold solders on horiz. drive transformer also replace the electrolytic cap that shapes the horiz. drive signal - if you have a scope and manual compare the drive signal shape.
Some times using poor after market horiz o/p's also causes the problem - does the o/p heatsink get to hot to touch or does the horiz o/p blow immeadiatly?

Testimonial: "In my first post I said: No horizontal & vertical drive from IC001 jungle chip. And I say a little further: IC001 still have no drive output. I obviously checked with a scope. You suggest: with a scope compares the drive signal shape?? Something wrong with your analysis. Thank you anyway."

My tv is blinking 7 times repeatedly. (The red standby light) What does this idicate and what can be tried before I take it to a repair store?

The blinking standby LED usually is an error code - indicating possible overcurrent protection mode. It can be either a short-circuit in the power supply, the HT rail, or the horizontal output transistor(s) could be shorted along with the flyback transformer. Or it could be a combination of all of the above.

Assuming this is a model with a CRT, I doubt it would be the 'bulb' - it would most likely be a circuit failure. Check the flyback transformer, the horizontal transistors and the tuning capacitors in their collector circuit - one may be shot.

Check the power supply and HT thoroughly for shorts and open circuit components - burn marks on the board, dry solder joints etc. Look for obvious things first.

Once you are satisfied that one or more parts have shorted, and you don't wish to replace them yourself, submit the TV to a repair store and insist on a FREE quote - this way, you can then decide if you want to pay that estimate to fix it or not.

check Vertical IC out (LA78..) and resistor voltage supply from flyback transformer to this ic. Check the STR main power supply(and resistor near, change value), some times seems good out main board, but in operation not good

It won't turn on

The smell of something burning is not a good sign. The clicking sound you are hearing could be a relay or breaker kicking in and out as a result of whatever is wrong.

This could be cause by:
1. A problem in the power supply.
2. A problem with the Horizontal Output Stage.
3. The Flyback transformer.

Someone gave me a TV once that had the same problem. I determined that it had a bad flyback transformer. I replaced the transformer and the TV worked about 5 secs before I saw some black smoke come out of the new flyback. I turned it off right away and realized that something else was bad that caused the original flyback to burn up. The same thing was causing the new flyback to go as well. It turned out to be a shorted, 50 cent hi-speed switching diode. Fortunately, because I had turned the set off quickly when the 2nd flyback started to smoke, once I replaced the diode, the TV was fixed.

If you want to get it working again, you'll need to have it serviced.

Good luck,
- Jim

No Power

you need to isolate the failure.
first, measure the voltage (called B+ usually) on the biggest elec. capacitor in the power supply. This should be about 130-160 Vdc.
If this isn't here, then the problem is in the power input circuit.
If there, then the high-voltage supply is down. If the set is anywhere near 10 years old, then replace the flyback transformer and its transistor (H.O.T.) and go from there.
The worst case is that a power surge or something has killed the TV's brain chip and you'll have to do a board replacement.
Let me know.

Toshiba vertical problem 36 inch

I dont realy know about this model but in many other model is a 1 oms resistror and is located around the flyback becouse the b+ for vertical output is taken from the flyback secondary voltage if these help you ....good luck and rate me

I see only horizontal line on TV Samsung CK-5339ZB

h/line is due to vertical section failure. 1 reduce brightness as you will get h/line due to vertical failure. 2 check v/section for loose contact or yoke connection. 3 check supply to vertical section. 4 check associated parts in v.section 5 at last check for vertical ic. resistor R410 CONNECTED TO high voltage transformator T444 is low value resistor. .5ohm to 10 ohm. it burnt again due to short cht in vertical mainly due to ic. hope this will help. as per schematic diagram go to

No power.

Usually, in those Sony sets, a crack developes on a small transformer in the horizontal drive circuit, which causes the horizontal output transistor to short. This immediately shorts out the switching transistors in the power supply and blows the Sony 0.1 ohm resistor fuse. A shorted flyback (high voltage) transformer will also have the same result. The power supply does NOT need to be replaced. The parts should be replaced, the flyback checked and the board resoldered by a qualified tech familiar with Sony sets.

Resistor don't normally burn out with help, say, without a failing flyback transformer and possibly taking a transistor or two with it. If you need the manual, go to and type in "F31317" into the search field, you will several listings. If you decide to replace it yourself, here's some more part numbers in case you need them.
