Canon 6551, service mode *28* DOES NOT WORK. Pressing the *, then a number from 1 to 6 then star again, gets you six different menus. None of them user-friendly just a bunch of numbers, counters, etc.
I have error 005, need a new web, but I cleared the web counter, and it won't go away. I am concerned over whether or not the new web will make a difference or not, since clearing the counter didn't allow me to be up while we are waiting to get the new one.

- When I press *4* with the paper clip in the hole, I don't get any kind of menu to choose error/clear, but messages come up and I can go from one message to the next with the arrow key. Only one says "Error 1 ---<-*Start", and there is no way to clear this message. I hit clear, or zero, or reset all with the button pressed in or not, and the only thing that happens is the screen goes back to the error message. There is Power Cycle option anywhere either.
I can access the counters by pressing *6* with the paper clip pressing the hole button, but there is no counter for 619. Just letters and single digit numbers. I just cleared them all, but nothing is changing the error screen.
My service guy is ordering new heat rollers and web and wires, but not a cleaning belt, which I guess we can add, but I'm concerned this reset is not going to work even with the new parts in as he has no clue how to reset this stuff.
Any further advice?Aug 06, 2009
- Hitting *4* doesn't give me any menu. There is nowhere to choose error/clear or power cycle. If I hit *6* I can get to the counters and clear them but none says 619. I just cleared them all and nothing helped. The service guy is ordering heat rollers/ wires, and web, and I can add cleaning belt, but I'm concerned that replacing the parts won't matter if we can't clear the errors. He doesn't know anything more than I do about accessing the modes, etc.
