Server not found

The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server, but the server could not find what was requested.

The web site hosting server will typically generate "404 - Not Found" web page, when users attempts to follow a broken or dead link, hence the 404 error is one of the most recognizable errors users can find on the web.[1]

A 404 error should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server could not be made at all. A 404 error indicates that the requested resource may be available again in the future; however, the fact does not guarantee the same content.

Hi, The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and not reveal the reason why. 404 errors should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server cannot be made at all.

error 404 comes most times when the client ison able to connect to the server...or the site is not accessible..

Not really a problem with your ipod, but with your internet browser...

Take care.

1) try check your connection first ( phone cable to your modem then ethernet cable from the modem to your router if your connected via wireless connection)
2) make sure that the DSL light on your modem is solid and not blinking.
3) check if your able to connect to the internet using a different browser if you have one.
4) if you have another computer try using it, if your able to connect it then try this.
5) if your using INTERNET EXPLORER:
click TOOLS - INTERNET OPTIONS - CONNECTIONS - LAN SETTINGS
under LAN SETTINGS if there's a tick mark on PROXY SERVER un-tick it. then click on OK then APPLY/OK then try connecting to the internet again.
if you do have a tick mark on PROXY SERVER then you have a virus on your computer, you should call your anti-virus support so that they will remove the virus for you.

In getting msg server cannot be found: Possible network (our network) could be down, the server at the site you are trying to reach could be down, or adjustments to your settings for the new network upgrade have not been made yet. You may also check the settings of your browser. If you are using IE you may go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings and make sure NO boxes have check marks in them.

Try to ping the website by going to RUN, type CMD and click on OK, type in ping name of the website and enter. If error local host cannot be found there is something wrong either with your Internet settings or network adapter.

1) Try the get software option, see if you can download some software. Anything will do just to test the function.

2) If that works ok, then its a problem with Firefox and not your internet connection.

3) If its a problem with Firefox, using the same function remove Firefox, reboot then re-ininstall.

4) If you can't download anything, then your network connection needs looking at.

Check your computer's browser settings, make sure it's getting valid IP address, try pinging a website and check your IP settings under network connections.

Disable any third party firewall software you have installed.

ok so you are connected to the wifi network. if your wifi is broadcasting internet and you got server nt found errors, it could be a browser problem...also, are there any other computers connected in the same network that can't connect to the internet? if so, then it is a network configuration error

if it is a browser's error, misconfiguration, etc, try to check:

1. right click on the IE's icon on desktop and click properties
2. Go to Connections tab
3. Click on LAN Setting
4. Check "Automatically detect settings

Make sure also that in your browser, you did not check the "Work Offline" option. Look at it at the File menu

I get the same error connecting to an OfficeJet K60. Have been successful with my Macs, but not with XP.

Check that your wifi connection is still connected, it may have timed out and needs to be manually reconnected. If not reboot the Router and the laptop.
