Question about Nintendo Wii Console

My wii shuts off immediately after power down.

Wii shuts down immediately after power up. When plugged in, red LED glows but then it shuts off when I push the power switch. Don't be afraid to get technical, I'm an electrical engineer and I'm currently troubleshooting the mainboard with my oscilloscope. I'd love to have a schematic.

Checked out the power supply... checks out OK but need to know if the problem could be with the power supply or the console ?

  • lucent Nov 30, 2007

Exactly same problem, came home to find it with the re light on rather than orange (as it was when i left it) and now won't turn on. Only had it back from nintendo for 3 days after getting it repaired.

When we are playing a game it will just shut off. We have barely played anything on it & now it is doing this! What can we do????

  • chapleau Dec 05, 2007

Especially when playing gamecube games the screen shuts off and you must restart the Wii. Sometimes it starts right up and other times you must leave it off for 10-15 Min. Now problem is starting on Wii games as well. Also wands now do not work (even after battery change). Wii don't play.

our wii console will power down and not respond to button commands to eject a disc or power on. After unplugging the system for 15 minutes and plugging it back in, it seems to work temporarily. After the wii is left alone for a day, the same problem occurs when we try to use it.

    Any suggestions would be helpful.

    Thanks

i have the same problem with gamecube games. it always shuts off during the game. i have to unplugg then plugg it in again

  • flobert61 Dec 24, 2007

wIii was working fine last night.. this morning turned it on and the blue bar flashed over the cd area and powers off.. Only way to get the red light to come back on is to unplug it and plug it back in. and still when you hit eject or power the wii powers off.

  • mikeles99 Sep 07, 2008

my wii shuts down completely when I try to turn it on. The red light on the power button turns on when I try to reconnect everything, but when I push power the light turns green briefly and the disc slot lights up blue then it immediately shuts down. After this happens the wii appears to have no power and doesn't respond when i push the power button. I tried the process of elimination. I unplugged everything, gave it a few hours, switched outlets etc.

I solved the problem on my end by removing the gamecube controllers that were plugged in. They were an aftermarket brand with the superheroes printed on them. This is the second set that I have purchased that have gone bad.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had the same problem but i just solved mine a few minutes ago.
my wii kept shutting off cause 1 of my gamecube controllers wires were damaged.

so check if any remotes ac adapter or any other caples have damaged wires or something.

check http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/power.jsp
for more information. hope this helps. :)

I had to send mine into Nintendo...it is the fan, it broke. They fixed it because it was less then 1 year old. I'm guessing this may be a problem with their systems because now I'm seeing you can buy fans to help keep your Wii cool...oh no! I hope it does not happen again! They say to keep your console away from products that would keep it hot & mine definately is. So call Wii that is my best solution for each of you do it right away. Send it to get it fixed, they did it in about a week. I was happy with their response.

Wii power light is flashing red

Wii red light going batty flashing like every 1/3rd of a second, and it will not turn on. I FIXED MINE BY UNPLUGGING EVERYTHNIG CARDS, CABLES, FROM EVERYWHERE, AND REMOVE SDCARDS ALSO, AND DISCS, BOTH GC & WII CARDS, SENSOR BAR PLUG, POWER Plug *ALL THAT'S PLUGGED OR INSERTED... Now i plugged everything back in ACCEPT Not Sensor PLUG To back of wii, then the light quit (This is after 4 min break all undone...) And then plugged the Sensor plug and THEN as i finally plugged in the POWER Plug I first held the SYNC red button on the Wii, and then plugged it in and WAH-LAH Isue Resolved Immediately, KUDOS for the hints Cheerz & Peace Love Banish Fear/ hate to not even give it thought in root thoughtfulness.!. www.fb.com/stanleydeanparker/

I can't seem to sync my wii controller. All 4 lites are blinking and will not stop. I changed the batteries and tried to re-sync the controller w/no luck. It was just working a few minutes ago.

    Try these steps!

  1. Turn the Wii console power OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a few seconds. After a few seconds have elapsed, plug the cord back into the wall outlet.

  2. Turn the power of the Wii console ON. When you see the Health and Safety screen, open the small flap on the front of the Wii console to find a red button labeled "SYNC." Press and hold the SYNC Button down for 15 seconds. This will clear all the syncs on the Wii, allowing you to get a clean start to begin the process described below.

  3. After holding the SYNC Button on the Wii console down for at least 15 seconds, you can now "re-sync" your Wii Remotes:

    1. With the first Wii Remote you wish to sync, remove the battery cover on the back of the Wii Remote to find a small red button just below the batteries.

    2. Press and release the small red button just below the batteries on the Wii Remote; the blue lights on the front of the Wii Remote will blink.

    3. Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console (picture).

    4. When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1 through 4).

    5. This sync procedure (steps "a" through "d" above) must be followed for each additional Wii Remote added to the system.

Remotes will not sync with console

Hi there, this information comes straight from Nintendo's website. Anything I'd be typing would basically be repeating what comes from Nintendo directly:
Turn the Wii console power OFF by pressing the POWER Button on the front of the console. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet for a few seconds. After a few seconds have elapsed, plug the cord back into the wall outlet.

Quickly press and release the red SYNC button on the inside of the white flap on the front of the Wii console (picture).
When the Player LED blinking stops and stays lit, the syncing is complete. The LED that is illuminated indicates the player number (1 through 4).

Wii power problem!

You are not getting the correct voltage into the Wii, this can happen one of three ways. (1) The power converter you have is not converting the power correctly, (2) running on converters are not exactly matching the correct voltage and wattage has strained your power supply and damaged the Wii, or (3) the power supply itself just failed as a result of any number of normal electrical conditions.
