Refrigerator humming noise and loss of coolness in freezer.

Our refrigerator is making a Humming Noise that comes on & off about every 5 minutes. Our freezer is cooling off a bit, ice cream is soft and frozen items are sweating. I vacuumed the coils but they looked OK to begin with. I removed the rear panel to inspect and touched the Capacitor & Starter to see if they were vibrating but did not feel anything.
Its a Kenmore side by side model 253.52622200
Whay do you think?

The relay overload on the compressor is bad. its a very common problem. replace the relay overload and it will start back up again. ( relay overload is what your calling the starter)

Your symptoms are classic. What you are hearing is the starter relay trying to start a warm/hot compressor by supplying it with an extra jolt of electricity, but because of the faulty compressor (or if you are lucky a faulty relay) that's warm (cool ones start more easily often) is refusing to budge into motion and compress the freon. Maytag (the model I have that went through this the past week), I believe, has a five year warranty on the compressors. They did on mine, but unless you have an extended warranty the labor replacing it is not covered and that will be around 2-3 hours worth. This is the price we are paying for our quest for energy efficiency. Compressors are being built so small and light that they fail much more often than grandma's old, old refrigerator that was built like Fort Knox and ran for 45 years, remember? But we're being energy efficient! Thank you environmental extremists! I wish I could send you the repair bill.

Freezer side is making an extremely loud humming sound. Ice maker is working fine. No ice buildup anywhere in the freezer that we can see. Loud humming goes on for a few minutes each hour.

Hey Joanne, I appreciate your inquiry!

Based off my understanding the freezer side of your Frigidaire refrigerator is making a loud humming noise. The humming sound could be coming from your compressor. If the sound is a new development it may be a possible issue with the fan pushing further against the wall. You may need to seek help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you from purchasing any unnecessary parts. Hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Humming noise. Seems to be coming from the fan.

Your freezer humming noise is likely coming from either the fan motor or the ice maker.

Freezer makes a humming noise and is not freezing

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Sears Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Loud humming noise

That sound is usually your icemaker calling for water. you can turn off your icemaker by lifting the little arm on the icemaker. As the icemaker calls for water the valve will be activated and will hum. This sound is usually not very loud. If your valve is making that much noise you may consider replacing the valve. The part number for you water inlet valve is #2315533 The retail price is $60.18 . I do have these on hand and available to ship out today if you need one. Please just let me know. You may also consider replacing your filter if your refrigerator has one. Thanks and I hope this will fixYa

Frigidaire FRS23H5AS refrigerator - freezer not cold

Humming noise would be your compressor going bad. The noise from the fan is because they are over working to try and keep everything cool

Freezer defrosted but refrigerator still works

Sounds like the compressor is not running properly. It will overheat and shut off, then restart after a few minutes when it cools off. Check the coils (on back or under) to make sure they are clean. You can do this with a vacuum, or a can of compressed air from the store.

Amana refridge

The humming noise is the compressor cycling on the overload protector. By the posted date I would think that you already replaced the refrigerator.
