Hitachi 50" Projector 50FX18B

Hi,
My Hitachi 50fx18b recently stopped working. Now when I push the on/off button, I hear it a click, but no picture or sound. I did notice in the back of the unit, when I press the on/off button, there is a red light on in the lower back inside of the tv curciut board area. and it goes off when i push the on/off button again. I'd like to find out if this unit is worth saving.

Please help
Thanks

Same exact issue. A friend told me to replace pico fuse C107 on the mainboard. If someone has a better fix, I'm all ears. If I end up replacing the pico fuse and it works, I'll post back.

I have a 50UX22B rear projection tv, on the fron it says ultravision. The tv was working fine and then it started just shutting off in the middle of a program, and now when I press the power button I hear a click but the tv won't go on and I don't see the red light. After a week I tried it again, the light came on briefly and then nothing. I would like to know if this a minor problem before I say goodbye.

    Thank you,

I also noticed that often, if I put a DVD in the DVD player the system will sense this activity and turn itself ON (could it be the system front panel is not aware it is now ON and thinks it is still OFF?).

Logically this system appears to have a potential for the system to be confused as to it's state, so when you press power and it is OFF but thinks it is ON it turns OFF (still OFF instead of coming ON) which is why you hear a click. I read somewhere that they say unplugging the unit for hours until the large high voltage capacitor discharges and forgets it's ON/OFF state may help.

Common problem. You can get a repair kit that includes the C707 and E994 + repair instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com

I just was given a guys old tv when he was moving out of our building. he had no idea what was wrong with it and bought a new one. i'm gonna try the remote thing. if it works ill laugh my butt off. but besides actually soldering on a new fuse are there any concrete ideas?

If you point the remote at the tv and push power -and you here the click -point the remote at the tv and push power agian- to here another click - wait a full ten seconds or more and then point the remote at the tv agian and push power - and the tv will come on

I received information from a faulty memory ;-)
He was referring to C707, which is a capacitor. E994 is the pico that is usually tied to this issue. HOWEVER... I can't find either of these on my board... gotta love hardware revisions hehe

I have found info on another Hitachi model that lists E907 pico fuse as the culprit, and this is indeed testing as open on my set. Will pick up a new 3000 mA pico and solder it on.

Hopefully this will give yyou someplace to start...

I have a hitachi 50FX18B and the convergence lines are not lining up and the picture looks like you are looking through 3D glasses. How do I fix this??

This is a problem with the convergence circuit. If you can solder, you can fix this yourself. Please note as well that there are potentially dangerous high voltages present even when the set is unplugged. That being said... Open up the back and locate the convergence ICs (large black ICs attached to a heatsink and marked STKxxx). Try resoldering the pins on these ICs first. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the ICs. There may be other related components that need to be replaced as well, but start with the ICs.

Keep us posted.

My convergence adjustment is not aligned

The fact that the magic focus doesn't work means your convergence ic's are shorted or bad

They have a kit for this tv it is available through local parts distributors
If you can't find it locally just Google HITACHI CONVERGENCE KIT

If you are not good with de-soldering and soldering do not attempt this repair. Remember to replace all the resistors in the kit

If you are not sure about doing this repair you should have your local tv guy do it for you

1996 Hitachi 50FX18B 50"

Yes - You will need to either remove the circuit board or lift up the tray. If you are not sure how to do it yourself read the link below.

  • This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here...
