My old HP Officejet 5510 all-in-one works still fine except it won't scan (not frm Control Panel, nor Acrobat DC10). I use Win 10. Before I eRecycle it, is there any way I can make it scan again?

pritner is dead , you can try a reset by the steps below.

1. Unplug the power cable from printer when the printer is powered on and wait for 20 seconds.

2. Then, press and hold # and 6 while plugging in the power cord.

Continue holding until it displays Semi Full Reset message in the front panel of the All-in-One.


If it does not work then , you have to go for a new printer.

try to scan and see what happens
if you are able to scan then uninstall and reinstall the printer software frm HP.com
if that doesnot work it is an issue with the printer

You need to inspect and clean the narrow glass and the white reference bar that sits above the narrow glass. Scratches, whiteout, and debris will cause the lines on scanned documents.

Unfortunately the 5510 is no longer supported by HP for OS X 10.5.x and up. On the Apple tech site, they actually redirect you to a page the HP upgrade page (read: buy a new one).

I had the same problems some months ago. I only solved it when I deleted the printer settings from my computer and reinstalled the software, making sure that I installed all the components from the CD. Also make sure that the printer is on fax default setting when you are using it as fax. You can check this by going to My Computer then Control Panel, then choose Printers and Other Hardware then choose Printers and Faxes. You can then set as default hp Officejet 5500 series fax. Hope these suggestions help.

If the software is installed correctly you can scan from the front panel of the device. Press scan and you will see save as:....select "file" and it will save as a pdf.

Go to My compter/Help/ and check out program compatability
The idea is to get Vista to revognise older software/systems
You shoulf be able to select XP/98 etc.,

HP has a fix for the Internet Explorer 7 issue on it's download page. You can also install the full feature software for a newer model, I used the OfficeJet L7780 and I now have additional features plus it works in VISTA. Just be sure to select "WIRED/WIRELESS" when asked how to connect and select "CONNECT LATER" when prompted that the printer could not be found. Works great.

Insert the CD you got with the product to the drive. Search for scan.msi. If you can?t find it you can get the file and instructions on how to install it on HP?s site - http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport /Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c00063888
