Why is there sound but no picture?

According to the owner's manual page 2.7 (and this is an OLD [by HDTV standards] set), the TV can only handle input resolutions of 480p or 1080i on the composite inputs. Most HDTV programming today is 720p with some 1080i and 1080p on certain channels (like some Discovery shows about nature). It is possible that your set will not process the 720p signals being sent.

Not available in current mode flashes on screen. i,ve had the tv for 5 years and have not changed any connections. HP-S5053

I have found a temporary solution to this problem. If you hold in the menu buttom on the tv with a strong tape, it will eliminate the message you are getting. This is just a temporary fix though!

Hi Scan 1080: Enables you to receive the 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i digital TV formats. By using the VIDEO 5/6 IN jacks, you can connect a DTV (digital television) receiver to view DTV programs. q DRC Multi-Function: Unlike conventional line doublers, the DRC feature doubles vertical and horizontal lines, resulting in four times the density for quality sources such as DVD, Satellite and Digital camcorder. q CineMotion: Using the 2-3 Pull-Down technology, the CineMotion feature allows you to obtain a smooth picture movement when playing back movies or other video sources on film. q Twin View: Using Multi-Image Driver (MID-X), Twin View allows you to watch two programs side by side with the ability to zoom in one picture and listen to selected window. You can watch pictures from two different sources (1080i, 720p, 480p or 480i) simultaneously. q 16:9 Enhancement: Vertical Compression technology that maximizes picture resolution on “anamorphic” or “enhanced for wide screen” sources, including selected DVDs. q Steady Sound: Equalizes volume levels so there is consistent output between programs and commercials. q Parental Control: V-Chip technology allows parents to block unsuitable programming for younger viewers. q Component Video Inputs: Offers the best video quality for DVD (480p, 480i) and Digital Set-top box (1080i, 720p, 480p, 480i) connections. q S-VIDEO Inputs: Provides a high-quality image for connected equipment. q Favorite Channel Preview: Preview up to eight favorite channels

HD tv with the mitsu

Well if your refering to the right tv (check your model number) then this tv only supports 480i, 480p and 1080i. Ive never seen anywhere that it supports 720i.

The component wires should include three lines for each corresponding color, red green and blue, and finally white and red for left and right audio. I think that is what your refering to.

If everything is right, it should work, the fact your seeing green could be a number of issues... maybe its a direct tv box issue?

Picture shifts to left

I had the offset left issue for non-HD channels with my Panasonic 42" plasma, using Comcast HD cable box. Went into the configuration menu (to get there with the newer Comcast boxes, you have to turn the box off, then hit the menu button on the box immediately after). You will see on the menu a resolution (probably says 1080i), then below it a "4:3 override". Our said 480i. When I changed it to "none", so that it stayed 1080i, it worked! It also works by selecting 480p, but then the picture is stretched.

HDTV Cable box conflict

This set does not support 480I in the DTV mode, only 480P and 1080I is supported. Try setting the analog setting in the cable box to 480p and that should take care of watching the set in DTV. Most cable boxes have a setting for format changes in the customer menu, depending on the type of box. If you are able to change the format, then the other inputs will not work since they need a 480I signal, as well as VCRs. Another setup could be to use the S-Video cable or Video input jacks to get a better picture in 480I instead of using the cable input. However, when changing from HD to Analog, you will have to change to the correct input on the set as well. Hope this helps.
