This is actually fairly common, if the laptop still works with the broken USB socket you can take the cheap approach which is just don't use that port. If you need more ports a USB hub is pretty inexpensive.

Lost my USB stick at my school in chestermere

Cannot help much with the one you lost, except if your have pre-backup for your USB, you might have some old data to refer.

Suggest in future you should conside the USB sticks that have:
1. SyncBack - is a good tool to allow you to perform backup USB data to your own computer (or vice versa). You may either install the software in your PC, or have the "no install" version in your USB storage device to backup to other places when you on the move.

2. Biometrics fingerprint recognition USB - This is not for recover your data, but to keep save your data that important away from others to view it, if they got hold of your USB. This type of USB cost is slightly higher (and slightly slower) due to data can be encrypted on written USB, with only recognize your fingerprint (or password, in case your fingerprint not working properly).

3. 3rd online storage portable apps - If you are out side with internet access to the computer, you may use online storage as your 1st (store everything online) or 2nd (store for backup only) line for your data. Example: Dropbox, SkyDrive, Google Drive portable softwares.

Hope this post helps.

What does memorex dual layer dvd+r mean? How do you record a movie that is over 130 min. We purchased 240 min just for this reason and we can not get it to record over 120. How do you finish recording the...

Well all DVD+R mean that when you finish copying files to the disk, the disk will lock itself and not allow any more files to be burned onto that DVD. The reason why you can'f fit your movie onto the disk is because the movie file may be bigger than the amount the DVD disk can hold. Just because the time of the movie is less than what the DVD can hold, doesn't mean its going to fit. Take for example a Blue ray movie, it may only be 120 minutes long but the file of the movie can be over 2 GB of space.

Travel Drive Broke

It depends on your skill level as to if it can be fixed or not. The data is most likely still safely stored on the flash chip inside the drive casing. However, the USB connector has been just ripped off. If you have any experience soldering it would be as simple as getting a replacement usb plug from an electronics store or cutting a cable you have and then soldering the USB connector back to the flash drive inside the casing. This is something than can be done at home or possible by a repair shop that does any type of soldering work(tv, radios, ect) Most computer repair shops will look at you silly if you ask them to solder a thumb drive back to life. I would not expect more than to be able to mount your drive and copy the data. Odds are after you cut it out of the casing it will never go back in correctly.

Good Luck
