SOURCE: Door will only close when held down

That normally happens when the sensors aren't aligned. Both sensors have led lights on them the yellow/orange one will stay on all the time the green one will go out if it cant see the other sensor. Possibly theres a wire that's broken or the other sensor is really out of alignment. Check every inch of wiring from the sensor to the opener, remove wire nuts if present and check the connections. The wires that are used are small, solid and can break easily. Also see if there's a staple that's too tight, move the wire abit where it's stapled and look for damage.

SOURCE: Garage door won't stay closed

Check the down limit:
If the light bulb(s) on your operator are on the front and/or back, the limit adjustment screw is on the left side of the operator (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door).. If the lights are on the sides of the operator then the limit adjustment screw is on the left side (looking from the back of the operator and facing  the garage door)

SOURCE: Chamberlain hd900d garage door opener

You will have to open the unit and look inside it. Unplug it first. It should have 6-8 screws to take off. You will see 3 white plastic adjustment screws. There is a carriage they sit in. Make sure they are in this carriage. If you would like stay back a bit and plug it in and watch it run to see how it works. It is a direct contact system, so when the middle screw touches the copper limit of the limit screw it stops. Thanks BB

Door comes down and goes right back up. then the lite blinks 4 times with a click noise. the safety eyes also are not on

It sounds like you need to adjust your down limit switch and/or perhaps your motor force settings. If the limit switch is not in the sweet spot along the rail it can be triggering too soon or not in time. In your case it could be too far down the rail and thus not stopping/slowing the motor in time. Your door is then being pushed against the floor too hard. Your safety/return force is goes way over limit and tells the opener to go back. While closing your door look at your rail and if its bending when the door hits the ground, this is definitely happening. After finding the sweet spot for your down limit switch, you can readjust your return/safety force per your opener manual.

I have a new garage door opener that has the black and purple buttons to adjust the force and travel of the door ...... eveything is working well except when the door closes it goes a little to far, the...

I have a feeling the down force adjustment is set much to high. If the door is hitting the floor hard enough to bend the rail the safety should be reversing the door to the open position. Maybe this will help.

The force adjustments control the pressure used to open and close the door. A new garage door opener from the factory is set to the lowest possible force adjustment. If you have a properly balanced door, the forces required to open and close the door should be minimal.

The force adjustments are usually located on the rear of the garage door opener and/or under one of the light lenses, If your opener has two lights. If you have lights on the side of your opener, the force adjustment will be located under the right light lens. The force adjustments are labeled with an arrow indicating open or close and numbered 1 to 9, with one being the lowest force and nine the highest. The force adjustments can only turn 260 degrees, or ¾ of a complete turn. Changes to the forces should be done in 10-degree increments. Please remember that too much force will interfere with the proper operation of the safety reversal system. Do not increase the force beyond the minimum required to close the door. Do not use the force adjustments to compensate for a sticking, binding, or unbalanced door.

No matter when i adjust the force the door goes down, stops briefely, them returns to open position. can't get force adjust to let it stay down.

If the door is hitting the floor and then reversing it is traveling too far in the down direction. Locate the 'down limit' on the side of the motor unit and turn it in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking of this control will be necessary to get the travel just right. The force adjustment affects the safety of your opener. Try to put it back where it was.

It sounds like the door is traveling too far in the down direction. When it hits the floor the safety causes it to reverse to the open position. You need to adjust the 'down limit' not the force.

My Craftsman garage door opener opens fine. It

It could be closing too far or the sensitivity could be set too sensitive.

Lube the springs, wd-40 rust may be the whole problem.

If the door hits and the opener continues to move until the rail flexes upward and then reverses - probably the travel adjustment.

Does the door close and stay closed if you hold the wall button down constant until it closes? - this would indicate a safety eye problem.

If the door reverses before it hits the floor or just as it hits the floor it could be the sensitivity or if the safety eyes are mounted to the track they could be flexing enough to move the eyes out of alignment.

Hope this helps.

The garage door closes and then opens up again, I have to close it several times before it secures. There are no obstructions. Is this a sensitivity problem?

More than one thing can cause this type problem.

If the main light flashes 10 times when the door reverses it is a door sensor problem. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is not flickering ever so slightly.

If the door reverses when it hits the floor it is a sign that the door is traveling a bit to far. The adjustment for this is on the side of the motor unit. Turn the 'down limit' in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. Some tweaking will probably be necessary.

Door close then opens half way.

If the door is hitting the floor and then reversing you need to adjust the 'down limit' control which is on the side of the motor unit. Turn it a bit in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover.

The door only opening half way may be caused by not enough opening force. You can increase this by adjusting the force control on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go.

Craftsman garage door opener

IF IT HITS THE FLOOR AND GOES BACK UP. YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE DOWN LIMIT.

IF IT GOES BACK UP BEFORE HITTING THE FLOOR YOU NEED TO ADJUST THE SENSITIVITY OR THE SAFETY EYES.

TRY THE DOOR MANUALLY AND MAKE SURE IT WORKS SMOOTHLY.
