My drive use to play all my original dvds and cds and all dvd and cd -+r but now it only playing dvd-r and cd-r thats not original. When the original dvd is place in the drive it says that the drive is busy and a few second later it says insert a disc i have try several original dvds and cds but it doesnot work

most sony CD and DVD players have a digital signature design to play CDs and DVDs that are original and licensed. some CDs or DVDs dont work since the player does not recognize or scan any digital signature embedded in the CD or a DVD. 2nd, lens problem causes most players not to read CDs nor DVDs. you can try to buy CD or DVD lens cleaners to have your lens cleaned.

You can only play CDs of all kinds (CD +/- R, cdrw, etc.) but you will not be able to play any DVDs. It will not detect any DVD disc.

CD ROM drive will play only 700 mb CD disks(normal CDs)...and not play DVD disks...u need DVD ROM drive to play DVDs....there is a big difference among both in it's function.
a DVD drive "may" play both DVDs and CDs....
but
a CD drive will "only" play CDs

You can only play CDs on a CD drive. In order to play DVDs you need a DVD drive. A DVD drive can play both CDs & DVDs.

Are you trying to playing recordable DVDs (DVD+R or DVD-R) ? if so, try playing original DVDs (the type you rent or buy) those are pressed DVDs - if it works, then your player does not support DVD-R or DVD+R - If you are using a computer burner that supports bitsetting you can change the booktype of a DVD+R to DVD-ROM to fool your player.

If however your player cannot play either DVD-R, DVD+R nor original DVDs and only plays CDs, then your dvd laser diode is finished - there is one for CD and one for DVD, this is rare but happens, there is nothing you can do, any repairs would be very expensive - you are better off getting a new DVD player they are very inexpensive now and any repairs will cost you multiple times a new DVD player.

you might need to check to see the format of the dvd that you are trying to play ie dvdr vice dvd some devices will not play them if the format of the cd is wrong

Please note that the formats of DVD and CD are quite different. Whereas a DVD drive can handle both DVD and CD, a CD drive can only handle cd formats. Furthermore, a drive that reads both formats does not necessarily mean it can handle the writing aspect ok. You need a drive that is capable of writing/burning DVD. Most drives that come along with pcs can only write CDs but able to read both. So check your drive to see whether or not it can write on DVDs ok. Good luck

Find out what model drive you have and see if there is a firmware update for the drive.. Sometimes they loose there brain and need to be reprogrammed. If that dosent fix your problem, then the laser is on its way out.. Use a different laser to read dvds vs CDs.

You want to change the lens of your driver.
