Can I clone a Windows XP hard drive from another computer and expect it to run on the Vostro 1000?

You can in a way, but you will need to download a lot of XP drivers from Dell to run XP on a Windows7 computer.
You can not just swipe out Windows7 for XP.
For better answers about this go to they will walk you through this.

Laptop touchpad has disabled how do I re enable it

Hello ania1997,
"!Beware, you'll have to "Manually Navigate,"without the 'mouse.
You will use the "Tab, Arrows, and 'Enter' buttons,
to perform the tasks!"
First, click on the "Start Button."
Now, click on the "Control Panel," in the 'start menu'.
Scroll in the Control Panel, and select the "Mouse" applet!
Open the [Mouse Properties], by 2x clicking or,
Right clicking, and open.
From here you want to ["Enable the Touchpad Device"].

Try going to Control Panel - Hardware and sound - mouse. Once you have the menu for the mouse open, go to device settings. Click settings, and all of the advanced controls for the functions of your mouse pad can be found there.

Run the 32-bit diagnostics test on your dell computer:
1. Shutdown the system
2. Press and hold "Fn" then turn it on (while holding "Fn")
3. The Pre-boot Self Assessment would run
4. Just follow the steps on the screen
5. When memory test is done just continue
6. Select "Test System" when prompted
7. It will boot to Dell Diagnostics
8. Choose Custom Test
9. Run the keyboard test and follow screen instructions.
10. If the test fails, replace the keyboard.
11. If it passes, reinstall Windows.

Hi Buzzy, I?ve had this problem with several C600 series laptops and the problem has always been fixed by reinstalling the drivers for the touchpad/joystick mouse controller. If you are using Windows XP here is the link to the correct driver: Let us know how it goes and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
