I first thought it was the push to start switch, so I went and purchased one and installed it. Still nothing. The timer switch works [I can hear it], but somewhere between the PtS switch and the motor,...nothing. I'm thinking it could be the motor seized up, but I''m here to get opinions before I go any furthur. I just discovered this site tonight...GREAT JOB!!!! I'm going to promote you everywhere : )

Re: Dryer Won't Start
Have you checked to make sure the door switch is operating? if its not then that will cause your problem but if it is the the thermal fuse is bad. to find te thermal fuse its going to depend on which dryer you have. if the lint screen is on top then remove the back panel and look down by the vent area. youll see a white plastic part with 2 blue wires going to it. that the fuse. replace it if the door switch is working. if the lint screen is in the front where the door closes then you need to remove the panel below the door. if you look behing the part that the lint screen goes in there will be a oval white plastic part, so with this model thats the fuse. replace to fix it door switch is ok

Power switch? Do you mean push to start switch? To see if you have a bad push to start 1st unplug. Open back top panel. Only do this test if you hae two wires going to the push to start switch. Wear gloves so you dont kill yourself. seriously. If you do have two wire then disconnect from push to start. Make sure they are not touching anything!!! Plug machine in. Tunr timer to 60 minutes. Touch wire together then pull apart. If machine kick on replace push to start. If not put everything back the way it was. Jump out door switch. If door switch is jump and still dont work then check motor test. Check harness on motor. If has a capacitor need to check with a cap. tester. You need a service manual to test wheather you have a bad motor. The manual will show you how to properly test a motor (each lead has ohms valve and you have to know what they are to test)
whirlpool electric dryer will not start when you push start button. Model No. LER5634AW0. There is power to the dryer. The door switch appears to be working,(didn't check it with a meter). I push the start button, run it through all the cycles and still nothing. Are there any resets or circuit breakers that I could check? Where do I go from here?
Check your door switch and wires to see if they are damaged first. You may have a bad Start Switch. If it is a 2 wire switch you can tape them together and then plug in dryer ,if it starts, replace the Start switch. Please Rate this!
IF THE DRYER COMES ON BY ITSELF WHEN THE TIMER IS SET AND THE DOOR IS CLOSED, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED. THIS WILL CAUSE THE END OF CYCLE SIGNAL TO BUZZ WHEN THE TIMER IS IN THE OFF POSITION(END OF CYCLE).UNPLUG THE DRYER, REMOVE THE BACK PANEL OF THE CONSOLE, AND REMOVE ONE WIRE FROM THE PUSH TO START SWITCH. ISOLATE IT SO IT ISN'T TOUCHING ANYTHING AND PLUG THE DRYER BACK IN. SET THE TIMER AND CLOSE THE DOOR. IF IT DOESN'T START UP OR BUZZ, UNPLUG THE DRYER AND REATTACH THE WIRE. PLUG THE DRYER BACK IN AND SEE IF IT STARTS BY ITSELF. IF IT DOES, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED AND WILL NEED REPLACED.
