Question about Televison & Video

Pests this is no hoax. there are spiders in my tv. one big one and a couple of little ones. they come down into the screen at times, then work themselves up to the top, out of sight. my tv is 2 years old. how in the world did they get in there, especially, as i understand the front of the unit is sealed. any real answers out there. this is serious. I paid over two thousand dollars plus taxes for the tv. i can't just go out and buy another if spiders get lodged in the screen. also, the light engine and bulb are wearing. I do have an extended warranty that good until august 2008. any help out there, please.

You might also want to call commercial pest control in phoenix or the closest town to you. Just because they repair the television doesn't mean that the spiders won't come back. Most pests aren't that easy to get rid of.

Hey man all u got to do is call the company, tell them your problem, and they will look u up, see ur warranty and then tell u to bring it in, its no biggy.

on the otherhand replacing the buld can be expensive, the engine as well may be expensive, after only 2 years you shouldnt have that problem though... again you can call the company and tell them you have unusually fast wearing bulb and light engine, that they may also fix under warranty.

P.S. sound vary angry and/or frustrated on the phone, you are more likely to get them to cooperate that way.

Will this product work against wasps?

According to me, it will not work!
Better, you should consider a reliable pest controlling service for this purpose.
The one which I prefer for keeping my house free from pests is Merkem Pest Solutions. They have custom solutions for eliminating different pests like wasps, cockroaches, ants, beetles, fleas, mites, centipedes, red flour beetles, sowbugs, spiders, and much more.

How to treat a spider or ? bite.

Most spider bites are not really spider bits at all. There are small critters like bed bugs that can be picked up on a train, bus etc. You will not see them, you will see the bites.
Then there is a bacteria that can cause this too.
If it is not getting better consider a clinic. If it gets worse go right away. If I knew what area you live in I may have had more info.
For now keep the area clean and dry. Odds are it is a minor issue. Most of all, don't panic.

Tv switches on, on its own

I do not know how old your tv is, but I can tell you that if it is more than a couple of years old, the back cover needs to be taken off and blown out with clean compressed air. If your tv has quiet cooling fans on the back, they are notorious in all plasmas and lcds 32" and above for attracting dust and lint from the ambient air. This along with moisture will cause the dust, lint and moisture to settle on critical components that cause tiny static discharges between components that can produce what you described. Another thing is and this is from my own experience is that even the tiniest pest like a roach or a spider, like I said depending on the age of the tv, can cause similar problems my traversing across the components. I had an RCA that would turn on by itself and change channels by itself. All in all the one thing you can do yourself is clean it out of all dust and debri. Good luck and God bless you. Robert

Does not spin

there is a coupling between the motor and gearbox, that fails.
it is a simple repair, and well worth trying

remove cabinet
  • pop off edge trims from control console
  • remove screwss from under edge trim
  • slide console forward and up ~1inch
  • flip the console over the back of the washer, the hinges are plastic and a little fragile
  • remove brass clips holding cabint inplace remember how they fit
  • lift cabinet ~1inch and remove forward
repair coupling
  • motor gearboxpump is at front bottom center
  • remove lock screw from clip holding pump to motor
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull pump off motor and swing sideways on hoses, tie off to left with a string
  • remove lock screw from clip holding motor to gearbox
  • remove two spring clips
  • pull motor off rubber coupling
  • pull nylon spider off gearbox shaft
  • pull nylon spider off motor shaft
  • install new spiders to shafts. Use a hammer to strike a wooden dowel on the center of the spider, dont hit the legs of the spider they break off

Note the new coupling spiders have metal centers to stop further breakage, common fault
  • turn gearbox spider 1 leg up two legs down
turn motor spider , 2 leg up 1 leg down so the spiders will interlock
  • install new rubber coupling on gearbox spider, install motor on coupling.
reassemble all clips and screws in reverse order
reassemble case in reverse order
on reassemble ensure plastic level sensing hose is not dislodged from water level switch body

takes longer to type than to do the repair
at parts store "Kenmore gearbox coupling" will get the correct part

32 RCA makes popping sounds

It needs a new FLY BACK transformer. That is what you are looking at. The origionals are not made for the set any longer but insist on having a generic on installed by a local TV shop. I just put one into a RCA 31" and it works nice. Don't throw away the TV. Get it fixed. MAKE SURE YOU INSIST THEY USE THE GENERIC ONE! THEY DO WORK!
