DVD won't recognize the disk message below

-   I have same problem with VR 4940 model.Someone suggested bad processing board for the dvd recorder.Do anybody know where you can purchase a reasonable processing board?-   mrspeedy1011

-   I just recently started to experience a problem with my unit. When I try to insert a DVD or a blank DVD I get a message : "UNKNOWN DISC PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN".
I have tried several DVDs several times with no success. I've had this unit for some time and had no previous problems with it.-   Guest

-   I was initilaizing a disc, then stuck a video tape inside and pressed the stop button and play and others, then my initializing froze and manually shut power off by holding in power button then after that, It won't recognize dvd-r, rw or an actual dvd movie, it just spits it back out. -   fuchangster2

-   I have the same problem and it just started. I have had the machine for a few months and have played both VCR and DVD recordings with no problem. I tried to copy a VCR recording to a DVD disc and that is when I got the error message. I now cannot play a DVD or insert a blank DVD but can play an audio CD. I can still play VCR recordings. It looks like several persons have the same problem but no one seems to have a solution.-   lm130
