Question about Polaroid PDM-0723 Portable DVD Player

2 Answers

Image I purchased a universal car adapter for my PDM-0723. The cable was rated for a 9V, my player is a 9.5V. We tried it at the store and it worked. I got in the car and it worked fine for 15 minutes. After that, the screen went to black and white lines and a static sound. The adapter also felt very hot. Is the player ruined, or can I purchase a Polaroid cable and be OK?

Re: Image

The problem is that the universal adapter did not supply enough current (amps) for the dvd player. When the adapter got hot it signafied that the dvd was drawing more current than the adapter could provide.

Probably an adapter that supplied low as 9 volts would have worked if the current out put was high enough. this dvd normally requires a power adapter capable of suppling greater than 3 amps at 9.5 volts.

P>S. Probably the DVD is not ruined

I lost the 9.5v adapter for my Polaroid PDM-1035 DVD player and want to know where I can purchase another one.

Go to Radio Shack or the like ANY DC 9.5/10 Volt adapter with suitable current rating, say 1 Amp at least should work, also note the Polarity of the Plug, usually though it is Positive to the centre connector but check the unit is usually printed by the power jack in. try to get a switch-mode if you can but a transformer type should work as well.

PDM-0723 won't recharge batteries. HELP!

Try cleaning the batter contacts with a pencil eraser, sometimes they build up a residue that prevents good contact between the battery and the system. If that does not work the problem is either in the rectifier circuits or one of the many small transistors on the board. A rectifier circuit is made up of diodes and it's main purpose is to change AC current to DC current as that is the type of electrical current all electronics work off of. The transistors act as switches with special purposes and properties. The proper way to test these components is to remove them from the circuit and test them with a multi-meter. The bad news is you will have to have a qualified technician to do this, so that means a trip to the repair shop. Hope this give you some idea of what might be going on.
