Oven will not light ,broiler and top of range light fine

the ignitor is not working its bad,you should see a bright orange glow below the oven base just as when you start the broiler look up at the top of the oven and watch this ignitor glow before ignition, the bottom should do the same, you can also see this from the back side of the range at the base,if you don't use the broiler you can use that ignitor for the oven ignitor as these ignitors are identical, but then you will have no broiler

Kenmore Gas Range. Top burners work fine. Oven is slow to preheat. Igniter has a yellow glow and the burner lights within about 20-30 seconds later. However, the burner has a very small flame and it takes...

the ignitor should glow bright sounds like you have a weak ignitor but if the flame lites within 20 to 30 seconds it sounds like it's ok,it could be braking down though when it gets hot,it doesn't matter if it glows,it has to be putting out 3.2 amps,if you have an amp meter with a clamp on it you can read out the amps,if the broiler works ok i would change out the ignitor, then follow the tube down to the bottom and stick a paper clip in the orifice hole where the gas comes out and make sure that's clear, also there's a shutter on the tube to adjust the air flow, see if it's closed,it's usually almost wide open, check the tube to make sure the ignitor didn't burn a hole through it.i've found tubes with holes in them from a lazy ignitor, most of the time if there's a problem it will be the ignitor

How to test oven igniter

The best way to test the igintor is with an amp meter. Connect a clamp on amp probe to one of wires going to the ignitor (either one is fine) turn the oven on, match the current you get from the amp probe to the rating on the gas valve to see if you have enough current. (typically you need 3.2 amps for most systems).

As ignitors get weak the resistance in them gets higher causing the amp draw to go down.

You can also get 'a feel' for the strength of the ignitor by how bright it glows, when working right, the orange will be bright almost whiteish in color. As it ages and weakens it will be more of a dull orange.

As a rule of thumb, if the ignitor is glowing and the burner will not come on the ignitor is bad.

I hope this helps

Igniter comes on but gas won't light

It should glow almost a bright white. If its just an orange glow then replace the ignitor. Its probably just weak. If its weak it will not allow enough current to flow through it to open the gas valve. Good luck _MJ_

Whirlpool gas range, after pre heat will not maintane temp. Can hear clicking to fire but does not.

Sounds like you probably have a weak ignitor. I would look to see if the ignitor is glowing after your are hearing the clicking. If it is only glowing a bright orange ignitor is probably weak and needs to be replaced. It should glow almost a bright white. If the igntor only glows once and never comes back on then you will have a failing relay on the control board. (far less common than a weak ignitor)
Good luck _MJ_

Kenmore gas oven won't light. The pilot light is on but no gas. What do I do?

Put a torch on the probe. If the flame comes on them the thermocouple is weak.If nothing at all replace the safety valve. That is if you have a standing pilot. If you pilot is an electric one then it should be so bright it is hard to look at but if it is dim orange it is weak.

Oven wont light

Check the amp draw on the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or less, replace the ignitor. If 2.9 amps or more, replace the gas safety valve.

My oven won't light but I don't get the orange glow .

Make sure you have 120 volts to the oven wiring terminal. Could be a completely broken ignitor this time. Disconnect the ignitor wires and attach a volt meter to the incoming ignitor wires. Turn the oven on. If you read 120 volts the ignitor is bad. If you read no voltage the oven control is bad.

Frigidaire Model EGF337Ecc oven not heating. element is bright orange you smell the gas but burner does not come on

If the ignitor is weak, it will not open the safety valve. It WILL however glow, but it's not strong enough to release the gas. The ignitor should pull at least 3 amps, any less, it won't open the safety valve for gas to flow. Repl. the ignitor, it should be fine.
