I love this comment ,,,,,I am officially a member of the "C:31:40 Smackers Club". I have a Sony DCR TRV 330 and it tried pulling the 31:40 fast one. But the palm of my hand changed its mind pretty quick. I love getting back at electronics. Don't you?

I am trying to connect my Sony DCR-TRV10E to my home computer via ilink-USB cable, but my computer does not recognize the Camcorder.... I guess this is due to missing drivers for Windows 7. Can anyone help...

USB and i.Link cables are not the same thing. What Sony call i.Link everyone else calls Firewire, DV or IEEE1394, and it is a different standard from USB with different connectors.

This type of camera usually downloads better with a Firewire (DV) connection. Some mini-DV cameras only use the USB connection (if they have one) for stills and can only download video by Firewire. This is because you have to play the tape into the computer, not just copy a file. If you are trying to use a USB cable for video download, then it won't work for this camera. The driver is not the problem, this model is not on the Sony list of cameras that will download video over USB.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading at THIS LINK You will need to select Windows as the operating system, then Mini-DV as the camera type, then select the type of connection. As you will see, the USB option warns that it won't work with many Mini-DV cameras.

I cannot playback or record on my sony dcr-trv315. I get the error code c:31:42. Help!

The error code that your camcorder is reporting indicates that it has a fault in the speed control servo system for the motor system that drives the video head drum. This is a critical signal that is monitored by the microprocessor control system and if malfunctioning will cause shutdown of the tape transport mechanism.
Unfortunately this is a job for a repair professional. RHN

I-link malfunction

That software doesn't work with Vista anymore.

Your going to have to purchase a program such as Pinnacle Studio to do the job:

www.pinnaclesys.com

That will work with Vista as well as your firewire (I-link) connection.

SONY camcorder DCR-HC42 color stripes

Try with the side display closed. Does the viewfinder show the pix OK? If so, then the problem is isolated to the LCD display. There is a small ribbon cable between the camera body and the LCD that sometimes gets a small crack in it. Replacing the cable usually fixes the problem.
