The machine will work for a little while, but when it gets ready to go into spin mode I get a f-11 error. The whirlpool people said it was an electrical issue. Well that could mean a lot of things!!! Help

My wife loved the Whirlpool Duet washing machine when she first got it, but now I think she would be happy to push it off of a cliff. We haven't even had it 2 years and about once a week it stops working in mid cycle. It beeps, flashes F11 error code, stays locked and there is no way to unlock it to get the wet clothes out. We have tried unplugging it to reset it. Sometimes this method works but sometimes it doesn't and when that happens, the wet clothes are stuck inside the machine...sometimes overnight. We've called the repairman a couple of times ($50 a pop) to unlock the door and get it started again. The repairman told me this is an extremely common problem with the Whirlpool Duets. Some of the computer units must have been faulty. It's hit or miss for those of you who are thinking about purchasing this and the problems usually start after the first year or two.
TIP: If your machine displays this error code and it is within the time period of your warranty, get the CCU replaced ASAP. Don't let Whirlpool stall while your warranty runs out. You should have a 1 or 2 year warranty which covers electronics.
We have to buy a new door lock and have the CCU replaced. The problem is that the new part is not guaranteed...not even for one day so if we get another faulty unit, we'll have the same problems again after a year of use.
Starting to see these fault codes pop up in these otherwise fine machines. The F/11 code is just a generic code generated when there’s a communications error between the two main control boards in the washer. These two boards are the Motor Control Unit (MCU) and the Central Control Unit (CCU).
A common problem is the wiring harness jiggling loose; remove and reseat it and that usually fixes it. If not, then you’re looking at spending some money on control boards. Yes, I said boards, plural. The really sucky part is that there’s no way to definitively and conclusively prove which board, the MCU or the CCU, is at fault so, unfortunately, that only leaves trial and error.

If it is under warranty have a tech come and check it out. My new WTW5105HW0 is weird. I had to watch it through most of the cycle to figure out what it was doing. They are all software controlled nowadays. :(I like the old ones a lot better.) It used to spin for only 2-3 minutes so the clothes were quite wet and had to do extra spin and drain cycle and still wet.For whatever reason it stopped that and now spins normally (who knows). They say U have to use HE soap, I have a lot of powder left over so I can only use a little bit or else it goes into "Suds Reduction Mode" (and always fails to "reduce the suds" and spits out an error message and that can affect the spin cycle.
Is this actually keeping you from shooting? Normally the "r" is an informative message, telling you how many more shots you can shoot in the current burst before the buffer fills. The camera should still take the shot when you fully press the shutter release button.

This particular unit has a resistor that burns up, this will keep the unit from spinning. The resistor is labeled R11 on the board and you can get a replacement at Radio Shack or similar electronic parts store. Make sure to solder the new resistor in the same position as the old one. The F50 error code indicates that the RPS (rotor position sensor) detects no motor rotation. Check to see if the basket spins freely. If not, you could have an item caught between the outer tub and the inner spin basket. A toy or other item underneath the washer could also prevent the basket from spinning and would result in this F50 code.
If the basket spins freely, you could have a wiring failure that would prevent the motor from spinning.

Not pumping out the water - if the washer cannot pump out the water, the washer will not be able to spin...check the pump for not pumping. Door not locking - if the door will not lock, the washer will not enter a spin mode. See if the lock light is lite on the consol. Broken wires at one of the out off balance switches or a bad switch itself. A fairly common trouble maker has been a burnt diode on the main control board. See diode R11. f this has happened to your main control board ( in the consol ) , the wax motor in the door lock assembly is drawing too much hydro and must be replacing at the same time as the control board. The wax motor can check, appear and test ok but will fail when working throughout the cycle.
re original issue, see if R11 is burned. if so, need to change R11 resistor and associated triac, and probably wax motor so it won't do it again. temporary fix just cut out R11, door won't lock. if your model won't spin that way, depress actuator for microswitch from door wax motor. instructions on web.
