This happens a lot in power failures. Appliances experience a power surge just as the power goes off and can actually ruin appliances, big and small. When this started to affect our appliances, we contacted the manufacturers an they were kind enough to give advice and/or offer a repair at little or no cost. Try this and have faith....

Can a microwave be repaired?

Yes it is repairable, but if you do not have any experience in the repair of microwave ovens do not engage in their repairs because it is one of the most dangerous household appliances and the consequences can be disastrous. If light and turntable works than low voltage circuit (220V or 110V) works well. In this case the problem is in a high voltage (HV) circuit which is made up of the magnetron, HV diode (rectifier), HV capacitor and HV fuse or protect diode. Failure is in any of these components in "HV circuit" or in the main board. If light and turntable does not work than fault could be in power supply elements like: power supply cord, transformer, power board, fuse (glass or ceramic, ussualy 8A, 10A or 12A) on power board.

How do I fix the oven when it no longer heats food but all other features of the oven work fine?

Could be a burnt out fuse but most likely its the heating coil is burnt out.

Our microwave will turn on but will not heat the food or water

Magnetrons in microwave ovens do not last forever, and are subject to failure from power surges. When the microwave oven no longer heats food, it is likely that the magnetron has failed.

My GE model JVM1790SK Microwave randomly died yesterday. I had just finished cooking something, started it again, and while the timer started counting, the over did not start. Any idea what this cou

Had you noticed that it was getting weaker? Taking longer to heat a cup of water/coffee? If so then the magnatron was getting weak and gave up the ghost. They are expensive, probably cheaper to get another oven. the other likely failure component is the capacitor. Careful they contain power even when unplugged. Caps are not that $$. good luck

Kitcenaid microwave light will not dim

We see and repair this a lot. The problem is on the controller assembly.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

Since the circuit boards are no longer available, repair is the only option. Details are here.

The Intellichef is no longer heating up. Everything seems to be working except heating. It comes on, you can hear it clicking like it is cycling. Is there a fuse or bulbs that need to be replaced?

wr9w99 Sorry to read about your problem.
It seems your have a general failure in the power control or switch failure on the unit. if you unit has power, and things lite. it is more likely you have a control/switch problem,
i suggest you call a service company

I tried to help you. Please help me and Rate/Vote on my response, thanks and good luck

We tried to use or keypad lastnigt- nothing on it will do anything. Light inseide is on and is telling us to press clock.

Your description sounds like power failure, after failure on some machines you MUST set clock next. Before you do anything, unplug unit for longer than 45 seconds, then plug in, set clock and go from there.

Turns off after 3 sec

Usually this indicates failure of the magnetron and/or the inverter. Neither is easy to test without specialised HV equipment. Often the cause is operating the oven without anything in it. If this has happened, it will generally be failure of the magnetron.

Replacement of the magnetron is relatively easy (about 15 minutes) and the inverter a little longer but if you do not have the knowledge/skills please do not do it - there are very dangerous (deadly) voltages associated with magnetrons even after they have been switched off.

Cost of magnetrons ranges upwards from USD25 to USD100 (from Panasonic spare parts) and inverters range upwards from USD125. The cost of parts is often the reason microwave ovens are not repaired.
