    Machine error code 50

  • 1970al Nov 27, 2007

Thanks for the help - maintenance code 50 - can you be of any further assistance?

Unfortunately, when I went to the link you provided that supposedly shows how to open up the machine, it's in German. Sorry, only ready/speak English, so this was absolutely no help whatsoever.

Press menu then start mono (blue button) then fourtimes arrow up (tel-index). Machine will be in maintenance mode and lights will flash. What error code does the machine display?

(to leave the maintenance mode press 9 then 9)

The paper jam had lifted the encoder strip of the print head. The strip gives the ph the position.

You have to open the printer and to fix the plastic foil which runs parallel to the ph into the right position.

Will post you the help later (have to search here because i have it already written and stuffed with pictures)

    red arrow: encoder strip

  • Mix-it-up
    Mix-it-up Nov 27, 2007

    So here we go:

    open printer (follow pictures):

    http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/inside.ht...

turn one of the three gear wheel around (clicking sound) now you can push the ph to the very left side (towards gear wheels). Lift it up here. Reinsert ph encoder strip (red arrow on picture) should go into position. Make a test drive: push ph to the middle and back to very left: watch the encoder strip: it should run straight with no "wave" in front. reassemble printer thats it!

    @MStofila:
Error 51 is something different to error 50.
The purge cam shaft doesnt work well.
Try to turn the wheel around several times (both way). Watch the purge station (in the pic above beneath the ph). Check encoder strip, too.

2nd solution for error 51: watch very well if paper pieces are left on the travelling path way of ph. There might be some paper stuck between the gear wheels, too!

SOURCE: Unable to clean

you need a new waist ink absorber box and have to do a reset. The absorber box can be purgchased from a service partner (see brother homepage of your country). Same procedure:

Carriage Jam problem. Have gone through complete troubleshooting routine, but the message just won't go away. Says ""Carriage Jam". No debris to left or right of carriage. In fact, the jam was in the paper...

This error message is displayed by the printer when paper is jammed in one or more locations. In such a case, users are recommended to remove the jammed paper from the specified location. The entire paper path must be checked for any pieces of paper. To stop the message, open and close the top most cover of the printer. Lastly, verify the flags and the sensors. If the problem persists, the cause of the error message could be a broken sensor or sensor lever.

Check for a paper jam. I just encountered this same error on my Brother MFC-290C, and that was the cause. I had to unplug the printer's power cable to clear the error message.

May be you should have the printer checked by a qualified technician.
I guess that when you aunt removed the paper, she did it by applying excessive force causing damage to the printer mechanic.

Brother 130c print unable 50

Solution #1 is absolutely spot-on from adnanbhatti, copy the link into your browser to be able to see the photos of the printer and how to slide the print head:
http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/000500/000065/faq000565_013.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=dcp130c_all&Cat=11

When I slid the print head over as specified, I found a little crumpled paper fragment soaked with ink. Pulled it out.... I turned on the printer, it ran a cleaning cycle automatically, and started printing just fine!

I have a color MFC 5 in 1 printer

If you did not get ALL the jammed sheet out, there is still a small piece of paper in there somewhere, probably covering a sensor or micro switch. Get a torch and look carefully. If youu don't find anything you may need to disassemble the printer to find it. Sounds like something is jamming.

Not printing

Sure. Its a new common problem of brother printers. The paperjam lifted the encoder strip (a foil strip) out of position. The encoder strip gives positioninfo to the printhead. You have to disassemble the printer and simply fix the encoder strip in its position upon the printhead. To avoid this prob in future stick a 3cm tape with a 1cm plastic strip in the middle onto the position where the encoder strip runs thru the printhead. The plastic foil avoids a sticking contact of the encoder strip.
