Re: screen display problem

If this is a Toshiba, go into the BIOS when booting the laptop and see if you can adjust it there. You may also want to check the Power settings in the Control Panel. If that doesn't work, you need to take it to a warranty repair shop and they will need to update a code that only they have access to. This is usually free.

The dim display could be caused by a faulty inverter. The inverter supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp that provides the back light to the LCD screen.

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :-

Dim display on laptop LCD screen

The part you need is called a CCFL Backlight. Basically, there are lights in the screen that back-light/illuminate the display. Over time it burns out and you are left with a dim and completely dull display. These are a pain to replace and expensive when bought from the manufacturer. But this site has a break down with dis-assembly instructions...if you want to try it.

Dell inspirion 2200 notebook screen really dim cant see hooked up another monitor and it works . how can i fix?

If your screen is dim but still displays everything then please check if the screen's brightness has not been accidentally reduced. If that is okay, then you have a damaged screen inverter and it needs to be changed. If the screen does not display at all, then you may have to change your screen.

All the best.

Satellite M105 S322 Display very Dim. The PC works fine with external monitor but the LCD display is dim and cannot see anything on the screen

You have lost your backlight which is a thin long bulb built into the bottom of the screen itself. You have the option of getting the backlight by itself and rebuilding the screen or buying a new screen assembly and changing that out. Below is the service guide to change the screen.

Below is a general guide for display problems....

Dim display on Toshiba Satellite 4090XDVD notebook

The backlight CCFL lamp provides the lighting for the LCD screen. If you have already adjusted the brightness to the max. setting and it is still dim, it means the CCFL lamp is is nearly worn out. To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions. Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp. Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case. The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills. Check out for parts, repair service and DIY info.

I Have a Compaq V3000 Laptops. The display is very dim. HELP!!

It miight be the backlight for this unit. It all depends on whether the screen came with the backlight. There is a remote chance that the display circuitry on the motherboard is faulty too. Try to plug a monitor into the VGA port and check to see if it is dim there too.
