-   I have the same problem - I think ;-(
Power on - green LEDs - fan starts - Elonex splash screen - initial memory check - then restarts - and just cycles through this maybe half dozen times before all activity stops with just power LED on. Once in a blue moon it boots fully into windows and can sit there happily for approx. 5 mins. then back to the same boot problem.

I ahve stripped laptop right down, with same thought that CMOS battery at fault. Battery is soldered into position on bottom side of mobo. Full strip down required to access, then soldering iron. Replacement batteries come with contact pins attached but not in same orientation. I have yet to actual swap out the battery - not fully convinced this is the problem. But the CL51 boot issue does seem to be a common problem - have found various references to it via google - but no definitive answer. -   WaveyD
