Question about Microwave Ovens
GE microwave - spacermaker over the stove model JVM1650BB00
My microwave works with the exception of heating. I was attempting to heat so leftovers when I heard a crackle sound after I entered the cooking code on the touch panel. Do you know if there are any reports of this model having problems being over the stove? I've noticed that in the last few years, my new microwaves keep going out. Could it be possible that the moisture from cooking causes a short in the touch panel? How would I diagnose the problem? I know that there are repair shops, but I am not as confident that they will be able to give me an unbiased answer. We are weighing the possibility of just replacing it all together instead of the hassle of repairing. I would like to save 300-400 dollars though.
That crackle is usually a failed high-voltage rectifier diode. It's possible that the magnetron is failing or failed, too, but I would suspect the diode first.
Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:
- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part
It's always recommended that you have the hood fan on when cooking on the stove to prevent moisture from entering the controls of the microwave.
Also, I tell my customers to be sure no one ever sprays cleaner directly on the keypad.
But I don't think those are factors in your case.

I have a GE J ES1133WN4 space saver over the stove microwave. It all of a sudden stopped heating food. I read in previous posts that people heard a noise. That did not happen in my case. Everything else is fine. Since there was no noise would that eliminate some of the problems listed above?
