Galaxy 88hl stuck on 24.178

I have a galaxy 88hl which immediately goes to 25.178 on turn on. The band switch nor the channel selector switch has any effect. Unit will not xmit but does receive on this freq. The 10.240 crystal is within spec. L18 is adjust to max. L22 is adjusted to max. L17 voltage adjust is random and will not adjust to 3.2 v per spec, Any ideas? Can't go any farther into the alignment.

Re: Galaxy 88hl stuck on 24.178

Hello radiogeek,

it sounds like you have a bad voltage regulator since you are indicating that the voltage adjusted by L17 is random. Check all of your voltages from the power supply (regulator side), and make sure they are stable. You will find that you may have a bad voltage regulation circuit or a bad capacitor in the unit power supply.

Thank you,

Galaxy 88hl frequency display only has decimal point, channel readout fine

on the face plate is a button for the counter ,try pushing it several times to see if the dot moves. As long as the channel display is reading the correct channel you should be ok but you want to correct this problem . If you can't correct it contact Galaxy and they will have a tech talk to you.

On my radio I need the settings for the knobs because other people can hear me but I only get static and cannot hear them. Thanks

Band should be E Band high/low button on high 10 khz off AM selected
To check that you have done this correctly frequency counter will read 27.185 plus or minus 5 khz. This is of course proved you have a radio that is converted for 11 meter cb frequencies. Frequency Conversion is the channel expansion mod/conversion

I need to know what knobs turn which way and what buttons need to be on

Volume/Squelch control: As desired
ETone: Sets the sound of the echo as desired
MicGain/RF Gain control: Normally, leave fully clockwise
Band Switch: for CB, turn all way to left (a/e)
Mode Switch: Selects how you modulate the radio. Normally, you will operate on AM, USB or LSB.
Fine/Coarse control: Changes the frequency you operate on. Normally, set so the frequency counter reading ends in 5. (center slot of the channel).
RB: Roger beep. Turn on or off as desired.
NB/ANL: Noise limiters. Leave on.
Frequency Counter: Turns counter lights on and off.
+10 KHZ: Allows you to get the channels missed by the Channel knob. Normally, leave off.
Power: Selects either high or low transmitter power setting.
Band: Selects band of operation. Low (A-D) or High (E-F)

What are the buts & nubs go to make the cb work which ones trun or push ?

Assuming you're talking about the Galaxy DX88HL, and assuming the mad has been done to reach the 11 meter band, you press the band button in, that put's you to the E-H banks, select the E/A bank which is high bank E. with the frequency counter on, it should read 26.965 for channel 1. If it reads 26.975, then your +10KHz switch is on, turn it off. you'll then be properly set for 26.965 (ch.1) - 27.405 (ch.40). You also have 5 "hidden" frequencies, these are at ch. 3, 7, 11, 15 and 19. To get to the "hidden" frequencies, go to any of the channels listed and turn on your 10KHz switch. Those frequencies are not attainable on radios that do not have a +10KHz switch or a clarifier capable of sliding that far over. To do repairs and for a full list of schematics, diagrams and so forth, I suggest this site, it has the most coverage of the Galaxy DX88HL as well as other galaxies that I've been able to find. .

Haven't used my dx-88hl cb for years. what d9 i set the band on?

I'm not going to be corrected on this as i'm tempted to say A or C and sometime D. Instead i would say switch channel to 19 then watch frequency counter as you change band selector until you find 27.185 and you have arrived.

Hi xtreme, my name is John. Welcome to FixYa. You should have a switch that says PA/CB. Put the switch on CB, AM, turn the Dial to channel 26 27.225 and try that, let me know how it goes. Thanks for choosing FixYa...John

I need a instuction manual and freq. cheat sheet for my galaxy dx88hl.thanks Rod

To use this radio on the CB band, you set the 10 Khz switch to OFF, and then turn the band switch to A/E.

Here is a Frequency Chart.
Here is the manual.

When the 10 Khz switch is on OFF, the band switch is E,F,G,H. When the 10 Khz switch is in the ON position, then the band switch is A,B,C,D.

So when you are on band E, which is when the 10 Khz is OFF, and the band switch is in the first position, it is on the E band.

I would get your self a Frequency counter. It makes using a radio like that much easier.

Hope this helps!

Dx-88 HL

You'll need to take it to a repair shop. Because it transmits its under FCC rules so a certified tech needs to work on it.

Or take it back to where you got it and have them correct the problem.
