Want a wireless connection

First you need to purchase a wireless router of your choice, select a well known brand.
Then connect the wireless router with a LAN cable to configure the router's wireless settings.
Then remove the LAN cable and connect the ADSL model to the wireless router WAN/Internet port with the LAN cable.
Some later model wireless routers have the Password(ie.Encryption key) and the SSID already configured in the wireless router andthis information is printed on a label on the bottom of the router.
These settings can be used to configure the wireless card and wireless adaptersin your computer/laptop.
If these settings do not suit you, then it can be changed to suit yourrequirements.
The encryption key secures your data and wireless connection from unauthorizedaccess. To configure the wireless settings in the router, connect a LAN cablefrom your computer to the wireless router, then open a Browser on your computerand enter the router's configuration IP address, then enter the admin login andpassword and then go to the wireless settings and configure the SSID andEncryption key.
The router's encryption key can be a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA or WPA2key.If you use the Passphrase method select either WEP or WPA or WPA2 togenerate the encryption key. You can enter the WEP or WPA or WPA2 key with 8 to63 ASCII characters or 64 Hex digits.
Most people use Passphrase which is easier to remember eg. I was born inJanuary 1988.
The strongest and latest security is WPA2, the weakest and oldest is WEP. To connect to your wireless router from the computer/laptop,configure the wireless card in your computer/laptop with the router's wirelesssettings ie SSID, plus the WPA or WPA2 encryption key. Then computer/laptopscan communicate with your wireless router.

Lan card is not connecting wireless connection available showing full signal but not connecting.

Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access. The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key. The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings. To connect to your wireless router, configure the router'swireless settings ie SSID, plus the WPAor WPA2 encryption key and then configure wireless cards in the laptops and orcomputers with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktopcomputers can communicate with your wireless router.

Bought the refurbed wireless and can't get the Software to download. Tried the disc and the website. What a pain in the ****. This is a real drag. Got any ideas? I am about to give up. Merl

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configoration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to the D-Link router.

Chances are you are using the win XP generic driver which may not be optimal for your hardware. Try downloading the correct driver found at the link below, install it and you should be set to go.

I have set up with window xp profesional with acer aspire 4310. The problem is my wireless card(Broadcom 802.11g network adapter).I have driver disk and i have set it up already but it still cannot work....

Wireless. I need to know a few things.
What is your wireless router set for? WEP or WPA?
Have you given your network an SSID?
Do you get a wireless Icon on your task bar near the clock?
Is the connection light blinking on the Wireless card (PCMCIA, right?)
Can you open the wireless driver?
If you right-click on the network ICON near the clock, can you open wireless networks? Have you tried?

Your wireless has to be set EXACTLY the same as the router. SSID with capitals in the same places. Same WPA key if you are using WPA. Use WPA2 if your router is set for this.
Same WEP key if you are using WEP.
Let me know

Wireless connection to router issue

Let me clarify to make sure I understand the problem: You set up your wireless router with a WPA 20 digit wireless key. You have a laptop which cannot connect with the 20 digit key specified. If I have misunderstood your issue, please let me know.

The first step always in this situation is to check and re-check your wireless key and make sure that you are entering it correctly. I will assume that you've already done this.

From there, you have 3 options to rectify the issue:
1) Set up the wireless router with a WEP wireless key.
2) Download a firmware update for your wireless adapter in your notebook to allow it to use WPA encryption.
3) Purchase a PCMCIA wireless card for your notebook that works with WPA encryption.

Please let me know if I can help any further.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

I have an older HP laptop with no wireless capability. We have DSL with the wireless router connected to our desktop. The only way I can access the internet is by putting in the AT&T air card. I don't want...

You can connect to the Internet using your DSL wireless router by several methods.
1. If your HP has a LAN port the you can connect to your wireless router with a LAN cable (provided you have a spare LAN port on the router.
2. You can use a USB wireless adapter to connect to the wireless router.
3. You can use a PCMCIA wireless card to connect to the wireless router.
Both the wireless USB and PCMCIA wireless adapter are approx. $50, my preference is to use a PCMCIA adapter, it leaves the USB port free for other devices, such as USB memory sticks, especially if the laptop has only one USB port.
