Question about Goodman CLQ36AR49 Air Conditioner

Wiring diagram i've got a GE electric fan motor. says 208-230 volt, single phase. numbers painted on motor are GBDQ 5861A. five wires coming out of motor, black, white, red, orange and blue. what are these supposed to be hooked to? squirrel cage fan motor. appears to have been part of a colling unit. thanks, glenn my email is

    it sounds like this is a four speed motor. the white wire is the nuetral and should be hooked up to the nuetral(white) wire comming to the motor. the other wire coming to the motor(probably black) can be hooked up to any other four wires, depending on what speed you want. Black=high, blue= med. high, orange=med low, red=low. make sure your incoming voltage is 208/230 not 115v. any conventional outlet is only 115v and if hooked to it , the motor will burn out almost immediately. Do any of the wires off of the motor interconnect with each other, and are there any additional wires that may go to a capacitor?

The white wire is nuetral, if you are trying to make a shop fan or something like that then you hook it to the white wire which goes to the wide spade on the outlet. The black one which is the hot and goes to the smaller blade (looking at an outlet in the U.S. on the right hand side) on the plug and should be for one speed operation. The other three should be capped off if you use it this way. If not, then cap off the black on on the motor and run the hot wire on the plug through a three stage switch. To find what speed corresponds to what wire you have to check resistance to the white wire and the lower the resistance, the higher the speed and hook up to switch accordingly. Also, ground the case with a solderless ring connector under a mounting screw attached to the ground prong on plug. Hope this helps.

You can check the colors on the wires with an ohm meter to find there function. Highest resistance is low speed lowest resistance is high speed the one left is medium.

How to Reverse the Rotation of Single Phase Capacitor-Start Electric Motors

Reversing the rotation of electric motors can be done easily with 3-phase motors. This can be easily achieved by swapping the connection of any two motor leads. But 3-phase motors are usually found and used for industrial purposes. The ones found and used in our homes, from water pumps to electric fans, are single phase capacitor-start type motors. Unlike 3-phase motors, reversing the rotation of single phase electric motors is no easy task. Swapping any two motor leads will not result in the reversal of the motor rotation. Analysis of the motor windings and connections are necessary before any modification can be done to achieve the desired result. Let's take a 3-speed single phase capacitor-start electric motor with electrical diagram shown below as an example. Make sure the motor is disconnected from the power supply before attempting to follow this tip. This tip is intended only for individuals with electrical knowledge, necessary tools, and understand the risks associated with handling electrical equipments and devices.


The first step in the process is determining the start winding which is connected to the line (AC white) and to one side of the start capacitor. To accurately determine the start winding, disconnect all motor leads from the start capacitor and the speed switch for multi-speed motors and then setting your ohmmeter to the lowest scale (R x 1), measure the resistances between the AC white line and each of the motor leads connecting to the start capacitor. The one with the least resistance is the starting winding lead.

Once the start winding lead going to the capacitor is determined, reconnect the capacitor then connect the black AC line to the found start winding lead (marked X). Connect the white AC line to L of speed switch, the motor lead formerly connected to AC white to 3, red to 2, and white to 1 as shown below. Leave the green/yellow ground wire connection as is.

Mars blower motor diagram?4 wires

I have a GE P547BS fan motor. I find replace it with a Mars 10584 fan motor. GE has five wires, BRN, YEL,PUR,BLK,RED. Goes through the capacitor with the yellow going on to 200 V the purple and black go to 220 V. Mars motor as a six wire connection two Brown's go to the capacitor. yellow I'm assuming goes to the hot/neutral and a black I would say would be high-speed blue is medium and red is low. Now when I connect with this way it blows the fuse. Anybody run into this problem before? Any help? By the way, it's a 240 V single phase system.

I need to wire up a baldor 3 phase motor 208-230/480 15hp and dont have the wiring diagram to know what wire is what or where to hook it to?

Hi Casey, I'm an electrician and can help you with this problem.

First, a disclaimer. Without the catalog number of the motor you have, or a wiring diagram for it, no one can tell you how to wire this motor with any certainty. With that said...

Nearly all single speed 3 phase motors have 9 leads (numbered 1 thru 9) and can be wired for either "high" or "low" voltage. Most of the time, high is 480 volts and low is 208/240 volts. Given that you posted the amperage as "41-38 / 19", I am 99% confident that 41 amps is at 208 volts, 38 amps is at 240 volts and 19 amps is 480 volts. Further below is the way to wire unless the motor manufacturer or name plate indicates differently. You will need to determine the voltage of the appliance this is going to be installed into. You should be able to find this on a name plate of the appliance - but it may provide a dual voltage spec here, too. If this is the case, you will need to *carefully* measure the voltage with a meter, or find out the voltage of the electric panel that feeds the appliance.

Once you have learned the incoming voltage, you will connect the motor as such when L1, L2 and L3 are the line voltage supply wires and wires 1 thru 9 match the numbers on the nine wires from the motor.

208/240 or "Low" volts:
Motor leads 4, 5 & 6 connected together and wirenut.
Motor leads 1 & 7 to L1 and wirenut.;
Motor leads 2 & 8 to L2 and and wirenut and lastly,
Motor leads 3 & 9 to L3 and wirenut.

480 or "High" volts:
Motor lead 1 to L1 and wirenut,
Motor lead 2 to L2 and wirenut,
Motor lead 3 to L3 and wirenut,
Motor leads 4 to 7 and wirenut,
Motor leads 5 to 8 and wirenut and lastly,
Motor leads 6 to 9 and wirenut.

The motor should be operated briefly or "jogged" to determine the direction the motor turns. If the motor rotation needs to be changed, simply swap any two "L" wires (swap L1 and L2, or L1 and L3, or L2 and L3). Test once more to verify rotation and when correct close the wiring compartment and complete the installation. Swapping the L wires will likely be much quicker and easier to do at the magnetic contactor instead of the the motor's wiring compartment. Either location is acceptable.

You should try to obtain the name plate data for this motor - if at all possible to to make sure of the voltage and wiring method. I hope this helps & good luck!

What kind of diagram are you looking for? Large business and warehouses have 3 Phase. I've not heard of a house. but let me know. Typically 110 comes out of one breaker and one neutral wire (and saftey ground is 3rd) 220 comes out of two hot leads and one neutral wire (single phase). 3 phase comes out of 3 hot leads and one neutral but is still 220 volt.

You cannot wire a three phase motor for single phase and you cannot wire a single phase motor for three phase. If you have a three phase dual voltage motor your options are 220 or 440 volts. If you have a single phase dual voltage motor your options are 120 or 240 volts. A 208 volt Hobart motor will only function correctly on 208 volts and is not dual voltage.

On most motors the wires with the tabs are connected to the capacitor (usually brown). White wire is neutral and color wires are speeds.
