Clarion XMD3 Condensate Problem

What is the procedure to remove condensate from behind the display of a Clarion XMD3 marine radio?  A considerable amount of water droplets have accumulated and persisted.

  • wh3concepts Aug 05, 2009

By removal, do you mean that the radio should be taken out of the dash/console and the outer metal case dismantled?

Would leaving the unit on with CD playing and exterior door open assist in the dry out? That approach has been recommended for condensate fogging.

    Thanks.

  • wh3concepts Aug 06, 2009

The condensate disipated by leaving the CD on with the cover open for about 8 hours in strong sunlight. The LCD display is toast; however, all electronic functions are still operating. Thanks.

The only way to remove moisture is to get it looked at by a local repair shop .Or remove radio yourself ..let it dry for a few days and see if it helped .Water in LCD may not dry completely and may rust LCD with in time

  • crispin melchor Aug 06, 2009

yes removal completely from boat and removal of covers for acouple of days.As i mentioned it may or may not help.Moisture in lcd is hard to get out because it is sandwished inbetween several pieces of glass and plastic inside LCD..

Please check the connections on the back on the radio to see if there is any loose connection. Your screen might be done for its life time.

I have a Clarion installed in my boat. Sirrius, cd am fm. No jack to plug in iPod. Solution?

FM Modulator.

(clarion makes a hardwire direct connect one)

FM200

You would use a 3.5mm to RCA adapter

There are also battery powerd ones (Belkin)

Either one is used by simply tuning in to an empty (white noise) radio station.

Im assuming the XMD3-RET is not the radio you are inquiring about since you described Sirius as a feature.

Some clarion radios have an AUX input or changer port that can be converted to an ipod cable.

If you reply with a model # i can look it up for you. I am a Clarion Dealer.
