I have the same problem and have tested cable input and the problem is with the set. The picture is horrible when first turned on then improves to a point however lines and lettering seem to wiggle or become distorted.

I have the same problem. The picture is horrible when first turned on then improves after a few minutes. However lines and lettering seem to wiggle or become distorted. I also followed the troubleshooting guide and tested the inputs. Luckily the set is still under warrenty, barely. Tech said he had to order 10-12 parts and return for install. I will post the items when the tech returns to complete the repair.

I have a similar problem with my 5yr old TV. arwilson mentioned 6-7 capacitors on the hyper board.

Does anyone know exactly what #'s these caps are?

Tearing and ripping at top of screen improves with time, but to the point where it does not provide a clear picture.

I have the same problem, when you first turn the set on the picture appears scrambled after awhile it clears up some with lines running through it and wavy. All writing is so blurry you cant read it.

My Toshiba has the similar problem, very wavy when first turned on then clears up after an hour or 2, better on HD channels than standard.

The tech repaired my television yesterday! It took him over an hour. He says the wavy picture, especially at start-up, is a normal problem causes by standard usage. He replaced the trasister board. He removed the back of the set and used a hot gun to remove and then replace the items. This was not a Do-it-yourself job. Unfortunately the Tech took the papers with him and I can't recall all of the part numbers.

There are about 6 or 7 surface mount capacitors 10mf/16v that cause the symptom you are having. They are located under the shield of the hyper module. The hyper module is located behind the input jack panel in the back. The module is vertically mounted and can be removed from its socket. However you must first unsolder the 4 anchor tabs of the shield first. Thats the easy part. Removal and replacement of the capacitors requires precise and excellent soldering skills. This job should be left to someone who has done this a few times. Hope this info helps.

My 57h82 picture has picture noise in form of small jagged/wavy lines at edge of objects - particularly noticable for text or numbers. This appears on all channels and with all input sources. How to fix?

Is a common problem. Your hyperboard has failed. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com or buy a used hyperboard - but it will also fail someday unless it has been repaired with better parts than what the factory supplied.

Toshiba 42H82, no sound after fixing hyperboard.

Search for the audio amplifier - it's a chip with a radiator on it - the jack for the speakers should be close by.

They are just little box reservoirs. Heat them up and pull it out when hot. Heat it up again and set the caps in the hot solder box.

Card reader replacement

I suspect that it won't play any source that uses progressive scanning. The likely problem is the hyperboard or scaler board. This component allows the TV to switch from sandard definition TV to HD. Typically, the hyperboard will cause shaking and wiggly images especialy noticeable at the top of the screen. It will generally work better the longer its on. Expect to spend $400-500 to resolve this.

Repairman for your TV yet?

Hello,
Actually I found quite a bit of info regarding the problem and confirming that it has to be the caps on the hyperboard as hdtvman was mentionning.
I've bought the caps for less then $3, and will give a try at replacing them probably next weekend. I have nothing to loose as it's getting worse day by day now. If I screw up I can alway order the hyperboard from PTS...

Have you tried to contact ptscorp.com yet. Go to their web site and get their telephone number. They should be able to help you with a good hyper board. this might be your problem with what the set is doing now. Did you have this problem before you worked on the scan converter board?
