E-3 indicates a paper jam. Turn the power off. Try removing the paper and lift up the scanner top to see if there is any paper, debris, or foriegn object in there. Gently remove anything you find. Turn the power back on and press the start (black or copy button) and hopefully you will have cleared the problem. If not, you can try to reset the machine by turning it off, unplug it from the power source and remove the USB cable if it is connected to a computer. Plug it back in and turn the power back on. If this still does not clear your error, it may need to be serviced. I had this same problem last night. I did not find any paper jammed, but there was a small black twisty tie stuck in under the roller - it took me several tries and over two hours last night and another 2 hours today to discover the problem. It works fine now. However, before my second try at fixing it today, I had given up on it and purchased another printer online. Now what will I do with two? Hope this helps you. You can also try calling Canon tech support at 1-800-828-4040.

ecblank.gif ecblank.gif Summary: Printer has displayed a "Fatal Error" message. This simply means a problem has occurred requiring you to take action. It does NOT mean that your printer has "died". ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif ecblank.gif
ecblank.gif ecblank.gif Your printer display or status monitor may read "Fatal Error". This simply means a problem has occurred requiring action to clear.
A "Fatal Error" does not mean your printer will "die". Fatal Error explanations are not usually found in the User's Guide or Handy Reference Guide.

RECOMMENDED NEXT STEP: First, try turning off your printer then turning it back on. If this does not clear the message or remedy the problem, check to see if your printer is on a power strip (or not plugged directly into the wall). For testing purposes, be sure the printer is plugged directly into the wall. Often, the issue is power-related.

Second, if the issue persists after this, write down the message (including the 3-digit error code number) and email us at "support@okidata.com" or call Oki Data Customer Support (1-800-654-3282) for assistance.

NOTE: If you see a series of letters and numbers(scrolling across the display) after the 3-digit error code, be sure to write these down also and report them when call or emailing Customer Support.
